    Estes E controller question

I just got one of these , there is a blue plastic cap over the bulb , it seems to come off easy , the smaller yellow controllers this cap is fixed ? Is this supposed to come off , like a cover , so when firing u take it off ? Or is it loose or broke ??

The first generations of Estes controllers had the lamp ("bulb") recessed down in a hole so that it could not be damaged.

The middle generation of controllers had the lamp sticking out the top so that you could really, really see the light. Since they stuck out the top, they needed to provide a bulb protector so that the glass bulb of the lamp did not get broken when you transport it in a box or drop it on the ground. You simply remove the protective cap to use it and put it back on when not in use.

The newest generation of Estes controllers has the tranluscent bulb protector permanently attached so that you cannot lose it and then break the bulb.

Your E controller uses the mid generation version with a removeable cover/protector.

The next generation may have an LED.

Estes person who posts on YORF shipped a bunch of these to an assortment of people to test out and report back. The reports were all fantastic. We'll see how long the change takes to flow through the supply pipeline.
