2 Stage, L3 Airframe - Ready To Launch

Offering up my ready to launch, 2 stage, EX or level 3 airframe, "Double Trouble".

The airframe was designed and built by Chuck Cummins in 2002, and I have all the data including Rocksim info and my (approved) flight request applications for your reference. I've made a few modifications to install GPS and RF tracking gear. The airframe tubing is mandrel wound Hawk Mountain tubing and GF10 couplers with Kevlar cloth wrapped reinforcement around all openings and at fin/body joints, all very well done, painted with 2 stage PPG auto paint.

Currently equipped with Perfectflite timers and redundant high altitude altimeters in the upper stage, plus redundant PF standard altimeters in the booster. It has provisions to install a GPS tracker (GPS Flight or similar) in the nose cone, and RF trackers in the booster and in the nose cone.

Recovery gear consists of Rocketman XXL chutes and drogues, with 35' and 50' Kevlar shock cords. It was flown twice by the builder and four times by me, twice by him at LDRS in Amarillo and twice at BALLs at Black Rock and Plaster Blaster by me. It is a tank. The highest flight was 36,585' on an N2000-N2000, typical was 26K to 28K on the N2000/M2500 combo. In the future I had intended flying it on some hotter EX loads that would take it to over 40K.

Shipping is not all that hard to do, or expensive (likely about $85) if you don't mind picking it up at a local Greyhound depot (the secret to cheap large box shipping - GPX Package Express!).

I am moving to a smaller home with limited shop space, and really don't want to have to pack this up. Offered at $600 for airframe only, or $800 with all electronics and recovery gear, plus shipping at cost.

I will also make a smokin' deal with two 98mm engine cases, a Walston and Rockethunter system (both TX and RX), an M2500 reload, and MOST of the parts for the launch tower shown in the pics. Basically, just add a booster reload and you're ready to go. Email me to discuss details.

I will post more pics shortly.

    Still available!

This was sold back in 2010 but the buyer never showed to pick it up. I really need to get it gone as I'm moving soon and will have no place to store it...

It is unchanged from the pic posted above (taken at BALLS 14 or 15), has redundant Perfectflite HA45 high altitude altimeters in the sustainer, redundant PF altimeters and ignition timers in the booster, and is set up to accept RF trackers in the booster and sustainer along with a GPS and 900MHz telemetry TX in the nosecone. I also have a set of 98mm cases and an M2500 reload (for the sustainer) available.

You could not build this project for two to three times my asking price.

Airframe with timers and altimeters now $600 (that's about $350 worth of electronics added!)

As above with chutes, XXL Nomex blankets, and shock cords for $700 (that's another $300+ of gear added)

As above with one each 98x15230 and 98x10240 case/closures (subject to prior sale of cases) for $1,100 (that's another $1,260 worth of hardware added)

Or get the whole meal deal with the GPS TX/RX (subject to prior sale of GPS, chutes, and cases) for $1,300.

I'm open to offers, or non-rocketry trades. Prices above are for local pickup. I can ship but only via freight carrier at actual cost plus $80 for materials (in a 8'x3'x3' box weighing about 120 lbs., from zip 92009 if you want to calculate shipping to your location).

Local buyers, or anyone who wants to pick it up, I have an M2500 reload I will include for free if you take the whole meal deal. Plus you can have my launch tower frame (less the crossmember tube, towers, and rails - all easily fabricated or bought) with guy wires and stakes.

    Some more pics....

Still available less the chutes, all the electronics are still installed (for now). Price now $450 for airframe, $600 with 2x timers and 4x altimeters (all PerfectFlites), we can negotiate a deal with suitable 98mm motor hardware - and for a local pickup only, can add an M2500 reload for $100 more.

Be weary of putting this on a Greyhound, a large rocket was shipped by them a while back and never made it's destination. There is a thread in the yardsale section regarding it, digging it out on my phone might be tough. Wonder if it ever turned up?

I have shipped at least 20-25 large boxes via Greyhound/GPX service, and every one has made it with no issues. I have had excellent results with them, my record with UPS is not nearly as good.....

I suggest GPX due to the fact they will accept these very large parcels without an outrageous extra 'oversize' fee, and the cost is extremely reasonable compared to the only other affordable alternative, a commercial freight carrier service. I can and will ship via Forward Air, but the packaging costs will be much higher as the box needs to be considerably more rugged.
