    RMS Noonbie Question

Hiya-this is my home rocketry forum so I don't feel bad posting stupid questions!!

I am reloading an Aerotech E28.
QUESTION: after i place the copperhead in the motor I am instructed to cut a corner on the bottom half of the RED plastic cap and place it on the nozzle to hold the igniter in place.

DO I LEAVE THIS THING IN PLACE THROUGH BLAST-OFF????

    thanks in advance

ayup, although you will probably find it on the ground next to the pad afterward ...they usually come off shortly after the motor comes up to presure.

the way it was shown to me was to cut so as to look like the picture(the one bit of the instruction that is poorly illustrated imo)

Thanks! I had a failure to ignite on the maiden flight last weekend because i pulled this cap off and I noticed i kinda upset things and tried to cram the copperhead in again and i guess it kinked-all this going on the launch pad in front of Millions of spectators-LOL!

Yes, it will either come completely off, or get (torched) off.. some of my 38mm and 29mm aerotech leaves the base of the red cap on the nozzle, but the rest is- smoke...

If you slit the cap, you can slide the ignitor in it, and it holds it much better. (this is or used to be in the instruction, and my prefect where i fly also teaches the RMS noobies about it.) makes holding the ignitor much easier. Cti usses a hole in the side of the cap, this works also...

The E28 reload is the one i've used the most. i now don't bother with the red cap at all and use an elastic band to hold the copperhead in place.
the first few times i used a E28 reload i used the red cap with a slit in, one a few occasions the copper head would ignite and pop the red cap off without starting the motor.

I tape it to the side of the nozzle with some masking tape. It helps keep the copperhead from falling out.

Same here. Looks ugly but it works.

Masking tape is the duct tape of rocketeers!
