So, does anyone have instructions for the ORIGINAL Sprint rocket? It is one of the few that are missing from the Estes site. I'm also looking for the Astron Falcon (Original, it was a glider). Thanks much!

I started around 1968 when I saw some of the older neighborhood kids launching them. I had already been building plastic model kits, so it was a natural. Loved it, even through high school and college, even after getting married. It's been dormant since then, but I've been getting a little nostalgic for them, especially the old school kits. I still have some in a box in the basement, but I doubt they are in decent shape or salvageable, I'll have to pull them out and check. I'm looking forward to getting involved again!

thanks so much for the links, I really wanted the old-school version of the Sprint, not the XL, so that's great! I used to design and build many of my own, as many of us do I'm sure, but there's nothing like the classics!

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Boxes in the basement from back in the day are very cool, I wish I'd have had the foresight. Pictures please ? (maybe a new thread) FWIW when I came back to the hobby in 2006 I found flying with a group to be very rewarding. You can check the NAR (www.nar.org) and Tripoli (www.tripoli.org) for a club near you and go check them out sometime.

None of these sites are working including jimz rocket plans. Anyone have information?

I looked up, and joined Indy Rockets, supposed to be the largest Rocket group in Indiana, and it's pretty close. I will post photos of what I can find in those boxes in the basement :)

My ASXL, just finished yesterday. This might be my best paint job.

I filled the body tube/tail cone joint with medium CA, which worked really well, and it was my first attempt at sanding elliptical fins into an airfoil shape, which I think turned out quite nice.

While the white paint was drying it fell over and I had to sand and repaint that spot. It's noticeable, but not terribly. Then I had one of the Estes decals tear when I tried to apply it. 😞 It's ok though, I've got another one I bought recently during an Estes sale! 😁

My second Sprint XL, specifically built to carry a JL Altimeter Two (notice the 1/16" holes near the top of the BT for pressure relief), and a bit different color scheme just so they don't look identical. 😉

Astron Sprint clone using parts from eRockets and fins cut out with a scalpel as opposed to laser ;), decal printed on inkjet waterslide paper.. Last coat of DupliColor clear lacquer applied earlier today. Polishing perhaps in the future

Sprint XL old school.jpg

I cloned the Sprint XL right before Estes released it as a kit, then ripped off a fin on the first flight. Fixed it and repainted it during a staycation this fall. I was hoping to fly it this weekend, but the weather seems to be trending otherwise.

I made a variation inspired by the Astron Sprint. Instead of a boattail, the entire body tube is a transition in these cardstock models. 18mm, 13mm, 18mm power respectively:

Ah, the Sprint...the seductive little Siren that lured me into this hobby 50 years and Lord only knows how many thousands of dollars ago. I don't fly LPR much any more, but still a favorite design. Did a nice build on one a few years ago, but doubt I will fly it--too pretty. I have always liked the slick white/yellow paint scheme, and have borrowed it for some HPR projects.

The pictured packages are, as I recall, from the 1970's - 1980's era. The HPR project is 3" diameter, 54mm mount. It will fly this summer, should be able to hit the upper teens on an L.
