Back to Fleet Photos. Next downscale was another classic favorite and Laser-X Rival estes Mars snooper. Still being pretty early in the downscaling this one truned out to be a bit of a Piggy tipping the scales at 15.1g giving a liftoff mass of 16.2g even the MMX-II's have a hard time getting her much over 25feet. But what did I expect with 7 nosecones and a basswood transition? No it's not pink...it's some off brand "True Red" spary enamel I had the better 2/3rds pick up at micheals while she was there. it's an interesting color that just doesn't photograph well. If I do another it'll be downsized another body tube size to lighten the load a bit. I'd also go with all balsa nosecones and lighter 67lb cardstock for the base transition parts.

Again this post should be the opening for this thread on the Mars snooper:

I've had a love/hate relationship with the Mars Snooper by Estes and Laser-X by Centuri for as long as I've been building and flying model rockets.
Personally I believe these are two of the Best designed Model rockets of all time. Can't really say which one I like better.

Here is a pic of my Mars Snooper from back in the golden age. and a pad pic as well:)

Shortly after my son started building with me Estes re-released a commerative edition mars-snooper which I quickly snatched up and built. while in the process I decided to do a 1.41 Upscale powered by a single D12. I've always like to finish my snoopers Candy Apple Grape over Gold. these two were not an exception. the Gleam in the sunlight is almost blinding LOL!!! Both are excellant flying models.

Apparently I got a very rare version with black decals. The circle decals and the 3-line decals on the landing gear are original, the others are reproductions from Sandman.

That one is so strange.

Has anyone else ever seen a Mars Snooper II that came with black decals?

Easy enough for me to print. Normally with white decals the drawing I use is black. I just tell my printer to print white.

With black I just tell the printer to "print".
