    Altair

I had an extra Tau Zero (BC-760) nose cone and this is the design that I came up with.
I wanted it to transition up to a larger BT that would be long and shallow. To do this I used a short BT-20 (1.25", just long enough for the two shoulders) to a Semroc TA-2050B balsa transition then a 2.5" paper shroud to a 2.25" BT-55, this is the separation point. Then a full 18" BT-55 with a boat tail. The boat tail is from a Estes PNC-55BB that I had cut the forward part off for another project. This made a perfect boat tail from BT-55 to a BT-50.

I had a hard time coming up with a paint scheme for this one. The "brown" is really Krylon Pumpkin Orange, but because it was painted over silver it changed the color. I expected it to change the color some but not quite this much, but I kind of like the way it turned out. All the black is vinyl except the nose tip which was hand painted.

Gee, Tony, what a great looking rocket. (Do you ever get tired of hearing that?)

With the suggestion of the Pumpkin Orange paint fresh in my mind, the upper sections have a gourd-like appearance to my eye.

I hope Bill's weather forecast holds up for Saturday. See you then.

Very nice design Tony ,and the color choice worked out great, nice combination. When you say vinyl, did you use MonoKote ?

The boat tail makes for a good look on this rocket !

Wish I had half your painting talent. Great job as usual. Where/how do you do your painting when the weather is cold? Hope to be at the Acton Winter Launch on Saturday.

    Thanks Paul.
Not MonKote, it's vinyl use for cut lettering that I get from work.

I'm lucky... I have an inside painting area.
Hope you can make the launch.

The Altair flew yesterday at the CMASS Winter Follies on a C11-5.
    Great boost!

But... it landed in the top of the only tree next to the launch site.

I'll be rebuilding this one, I just need to get some parts from Semroc.

Oh my goodness ! That was such a nice looking rocket ,and to end up into the only tree around just does not seem fair, I mean I can see offering the odd virgin or human heart ,but such a fine rocket to the tree gods does not seem propper !

Perhaps the tree spirits need to see what happens when they become greedy with rockets

    Thanks Paul.

On it's maiden flight no less.

I have parts on the way from Semroc, so it will be rebuilt.
