And people selling CTI I assume?

On a related note, do you guys have any suggestions for lodgings? I was considering camping, but then realized it was likely to be in the 100+ degrees, so a air conditioned hotel room would be a really nice place to retreat to for the night.

yeah, Jack G. of Whats Up Hobbies will be selling both aerotech and CTI motors. aerotech is just gonna show off new motors (hopefully loudmouth).

The official hotel is Country Inn in Barstow. However, there are cheaper hotels. The Motel 6 in big bear will be ~20 degrees cooler, and will be cheaper. shouldn't be too hard to find a good deal

I've been surprised at the lack of posts on the NSL 2011 forum's page, not that much interest in the launch this time? One too many forum to look at? I suspect that most of the participants attending NSL this time are from ROC and therefore already have their own forum to discuss the hot topics about the launch.

roc email chat yeah, but i think its the location. i guess people don't wanna go to cali 2 years in a row lol.

+its back down to M motor, so that's a pain to people wanting to do an N10,000 drag race this time

oh, and i'd suspect gas prices (4.20+ in southern california) would make having to rent a car/RV, or road trip really difficult.

could be 20, could be 50, the email said

    IMPORTANT NOTICE: NSL BANQUET CANCELED

The Banquet/Barbecue that was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday evening, June 11, during NSL 2011, has been CANCELED due to low turnout.

In addition to the cost of catering the food and drinks, an event like this has a number of fixed costs, including things like venue rental, tables and chairs, and so on. Unfortunately, not enough people bought banquet tickets to cover all of the costs, and therefore we have been forced to cancel the banquet.

ROC apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause. We will be issuing full refunds for all banquet tickets purchased.

The events that had been previously scheduled to take place at the banquet, including voting for a winner of the in-flight video contest, have been relocated to the launch site. We will be projecting the videos on the side of the ROC trailer on Saturday evening, instead of on a screen at the now-canceled banquet.

Hopefully, this change means that everyone will now be able to take advantage of the opportunity for night-flying!

The range will be open after dark on both Friday and Saturday evenings for night flights. Night-flight rockets must carry lights that are clearly visible from launch thru landing, but other than that, there are no other special requirements.

I am going and I am really looking forward to it. I was not going to the banquet any way, since I was not willing to give up a night launch opportunity. Now if can just get my new build done in time ....

I'm cramming in my building too. I'd love to launch a helicopter for the night launch, but never built one before. Any good suggestions?

I don't think it will be in 100's... it's not usually that hot in June....and it gets much cooler after sundown.

As for the launch itself...the vendors at these events have everything you need, so don't worry about motors. I, for one, have not even registered yet due to income struggles and still don't know if I'll go.......maybe the same reason for low banquet numbers....it's tough these days...

The low numbers were for the banquet, in sure there will be PLENTY of people launching rockets. at a usual Rocstock there will be hundreds of people in attendance. NSL should have that many or more!

The video contest entries will be projected on the ROC trailer on Saturday night. any cool video ideas?

    Mike K

P.S. I don't know when it will be posted but look for the volunteer sign up list. Even if you have no experience there are plenty of jobs that can be learned on the job!

I have a special video rocket that I can't wait to fly in the contest but I don't want to give away the surprise. Besides if it doesn't work, there will be evidence recorded for everyone to watch....

1 motor: I59WN, i've never seen one fly, but i expect that it will be magnificent. nice normal looking thrust push followed by about 6.5 seconds of sustained thrust. nice yellow flame coming out of the bottom end as the rocket slow increases to ~550mph before it starts to coast out for a long time hitting about 10k feet. should give a great view of the valley and hopefully win me some prize

going with my own keychain cam since i don't want to worry about duct tape holding a borrowed one on

i intend to do a 29mm drag race against a couple guys, but my G79W/N has still not arrived from CDI, and its starting to get on my nerves...it was supposidly shipped april 11th, and they said the longest they saw was 38 days, well i'm on day 38 now...if i don't get it im really going to raise hell cuz i've sent chris a bunch of emails, and he keeps telling me that i'm getting things confused and that it'll be there any day now...

I don't think I will be in any of the contests, (never seems to be enough time to do it all) but I hope to fly my new builds barring the W...w....w...weather co-operates.

    3x upsacle Estes Scorpius
Gone Bananas with Captain Bananas piloting the vehicle
and the Illuminator 3000 for a night flight. Probably a day flight to test it out in the daylight first to be sure all goes well.
and....if I feel like eating just beans and tortillas for the next 6 months because all my $$$ is gone, I may fly my 3.75 upscale Red Max again on the CTI L1410 Skidmark.

    Fudd,

since you are not going to enter the contest, wanna help set up the Breakfast Scramble? Do some RSO duty? Or cooking duty for that mater?

Nice thing about that one you will be done early.

this just in Barbecue on saturday night around 7 or so. i'll be bringing utensils, drinks, and some dessert. it'll be right on the lakebed, probably behind the cars and such so it's not too crowded. then the in flight video contest will be shown/voted on, should be really fun.

mmm, ill probably do either some cooking or RSOing for the breakfast scramble (free breakfast )

and fuddrucker, that der red max is insane!

I assume the flight videos will be shown then before the night launch portion starts? I don't want to have to choose!

not too sure. they'll be projected directly onto the ROC trailer, which is right at the flight line, so you might have to wait a lil while if you wanna watch em, but you can always get ready before the videos start and then just launch around 9 or so.

    should be a great time.

Hmm... not much of a cook but I'm happy to help out with setting up in the morning for the breakfast scramble and putting in some RSO/pad manager time over the weekend anytime.

P.S. Mike, thanks for your help at the launch Sat. with all the scouts at the RSO table. Really helped to keep things moving along. I was like, gee look at that plane in the sky, hmmm, there goes a rocket, turn to my left, BAM 50 scouts in line!!!!

Payton, AKA 'The Boy' is telling me that he wants to edit the finalist and have them as one file, he is thinking about having the other videos just looping during the other times.

Side note, anyone know of a cheep or shareware video editing software? I'm not sure if the boy wants to learn my stuff.

other side note, if there is a volunteer that wants to help out with the video contest. Payton has the computer side of things well in hand, I have the mounting part of things covered, if there is someone who wants to help out with the pad side of the video (helping people turn the cameras on, plus running out to the pad to turn them on if there is a hold up, etc...). Let me know if you are interested! Payton can show you how to work things!

Other, Other side note, I will be on the lakebed on Friday, if you want to check out a camera on Friday eve to be ready to go Saturday Morning, let me know. Contest videos MUST be shot on Saturday!

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday and would love to help with the video stuff. I've got a bird of my own I'd like to fly, and I'd like to take some photos of launches, but other than that my day is pretty free. Its always more fun when you've got something to do.

How do I go about signing up for that?

I will take both of you up on your offer to help look for me Friday and we can work out the details. I'm going to be busy Saturday Morning with the breakfast scramble contest. I'm sure Payton could use a hand getting out the first round of cameras.

I will be at NSL on Friday you can look for me then, one way to find me, I have one of the few green easy ups.
