I didn't see a category for this yet.

This is my son's Estes D Region Tomahawk kit done up in a nice ND blue and gold metallic fade with the CCHA and the Irish Hockey vinyl on board.

This one is just at its decommission and 'time to cannibalize' point in its life.

Great rocket.

Nice looking rocket. Here are a couple of pics of the one I did. I really like this one, flies great every time all the way up to F's.

Mine is one of the Older Estes kit D-Region Tomahawks, In this older kit if the modeler wanted to simulate the Fincan fluteing it had to be sanded out of balsa stock and applied.
A micro version was available for awhile from Pratt Hobbies semi-scale kit D-Region Tomahawk featuring in T4 Body wrap rather then paint.

I couldn't find a Tomahawk gallery, so I made one.

To start, here is my D-Region Tomahawk, from Estes. Really easy build, I might have to buy another kit to convert to 29mm for my 29/40-120.

G.D.

Thanks for your contribution.

There was a Tomahawk gallery so I merged the two.

THanks again.

^ I agree, I keep putting off the 7.67 version. I have the file drawn for the CNC to cut the fins but I enjoy building smaller rockets now.

Here is mine, The paint job is pretty sloppy, not one of my better efforts. It is a 10 footer (looks good from 10 feet away but up close .... ugh)

It flies great though. I also want to get a second one to use with my 29/40-120 case and an aeropack retainer.

Here is my estes version, built stock except for modifying the retainer for a 24mm reload casing end closure and an external attach recovery system

I've just started a build of the Semroc
I.Q.S.Y. Tomahawk

On my blog at:
www.modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com

When I get closer to finishing, I'll draw up the upper body detail, fin plates and bolts on a available PDF.
Stop by and build along!

Welcome to the SCALE (Sandia) D-Region Tomahawk Gallery on TRF.

This gallery showcases the (Sandia) D-Region Tomahawk and those rockets derived from it. Particularly appropriate in this thread are the following:

Aerotech: IQSY Tomahawk: #89014
Centuri: Tomahawk: KC-40 or #5100
CMR: D-Region Tomahawk: S1
Estes: D-Region Tomahawk: #1944
Estes: D-Region Tomahawk: #2037
Neubauer: D-Region Tomahawk:
Pratt Hobbies: D-Region Tomahawk (MMX):
Semroc: I.Q.S.Y Tomahawk: KD-2
Thrustline: D-Region Tomahawk: TA-024
Yank: IQSY Tomahawk (3"):
Yank: IQSY Tomahawk (4"):

as well as any upscales, downscales, clones, kitbashes or other derivative works. Even Goonies qualify!

The Tomahawk, based on the Thiokol TE-416 Motor, was designed by the Sandia Corp. as a small sounding rockets in the International Quiet Sun Year (IQSY) in 1963. Initial tests from Tonopah, Nevada and Point Mugu, California failed. The fourth launch from Wallops Island was a success, but it was not used in the IQSY experiments. NASA used another Version, the D-Region Tomahawk in 1968, but little further use of it was made.

Although it lacked success as a single stage sounding rocket, it was highly successful as the second stage on Nike, Terrier, Taurus (Honest John), Ute, Paiute and Sandhawk boosters. Several hundred of these configurations were launched.

Not sure but think it was a G80. Someone loaned the hardware (AT 29/40-120) and donated the reload and I forgot to ask.
