    Aeropack flange removal

I have a 54mm Aeropack flange on a LOC tube from a crashed rocket. Anyone have any experience in removing them? I used J-B Weld to glue it on. Is it worth effort to remove it?

if you're not trying to save the tube, then heating the flange will soften the glue to the point where you can peel the epoxy loose.

Why yes they are worth saving, even if you have to peal the old motor tube out layer by layer and rough the inside up with a dremel before gluing to a new tube.

If you don't feel like taking the time to remove it, just cut the body tube fairly close to it and I will cover some shipping charges

Just an idea, but maybe cut it all out and boil it like macaroni it in a pan. That should soften up the LOC motor mount material and what's left of the wooden aft centering ring.

Hit the flange with some 40~50 grit (wet) to get the JB-Weld off of the ID enough to get it ready to fit your next motor mount.

We also know there are known unknowns: that is to say we know there are some things [we know] we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns---the ones we don't know we don't know...."

I just did this today with a 54mm aeropack. I just used a dremel with a cutting wheel to remove the retainer from the rocket and then I switched to a sanding drum to grind off all the old JB. Works fine. I have done this several times and had no issues with re-gluing (JB) the retainer to the new rocket.

Cool, Thanks. That's what I was thinking of doing. I just wasn't sure how hard it was to remove the (JB).

Don't bother trying to remove it, it ain't worth it.

What you should do is ship it to me, I'm a licensed aluminum and cardboard recycler, I'll take care of it for you.
