19 F240's would be even more of a hell of a flight.

But the longest motors that fit are 3-grain, if I understand the design correctly.

Hell, let's face it: 19 of anything that'll fit in there is a gigglefit waiting for ignition!

    Later!

Thanks to StickerShock for the awesome flame vinyl decals.

Repainted the body yellow. Painted the NC red, and stuck on the flames!!
OMG, that looks so nice. Can't wait to hear the results of the latest flight!

The sound of 19 black powder motor all firing at once is something to behold.

    Enjoy this at LDRS.

Boris...which day do you plan to fly this? This would be exceedingly cool to watch.

    Another vote for the E12's!
If you could find a way to light 19 AP motors simultaneously, maybe get 19 E to D adaptors and fly it on F24's.
Still insane, yet more affordable than some of the other propositions in this thread, if you borrowed the casings.

7 F240's would work as well. Then he could air start 12 D12's
    I flew a 3 F240, 4 E9 airstart rocket in June at Orangeburg.

The flash pan ignition and hushed smokey hiss of all those BP motors is what this beast is all about.

A little wire brush action and a fresh coat of paint over the winter and it looks good again
What? Personally, I never "polish" my rockets. I'll do physical reconstruction if necessary, but the BP residue, dust, dirt and grime give my rockets character. I like them to look old and worn from several successful launches. I do have rockets that I build, launch once and retire to the collection, but every one of those has some identifying mark on it that says, "I was launched", "I flew..."

    Keep 'em dirty!!!

On Saturday, 7/14/12, at LDRS XXXI early in the afternoon, HellBoy flew for the 6th time.

The flashpan fired all 19x E9 motors for a nice straight liftoff and long smokey burn.

532 Ns total impulse BP "I-171".

Rocket hit 1224 ft altitude and deployed its 45" main at apogee as planned.

One fin hit a hard surface and will need some minor repair.

Got some good onboard and ground video which I will edit and post when I get home.

Those pics are awesome, all of that smoke and flame is just too much. I bet that was really cool to see in person. Good job man, good job.

    Boris,

The paint job and flames look great. I would guess you won't be flying it next week at the CMASS launch but I hope you'll bring it for us to see.

I will definitely get more cool vinyl decals from Stickershock going forward. They dress up a rocket very nicely, are easy to apply and don't cost much.

Boris, I'm sorry to say I didn't realize who I was talking to at one point, until after you were out on the range recovering a rocket, or I would've introduced myself.

    Those saucers are very cool!

Flight video, HelBoy at LDRS on 19x E9, also includes a bonus flight, Applewhite 18" saucer on a J250 Skidmark:

YouTube playlist of all my LDRS videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3xxD...F&feature=plcp

Took a while to get this together due to software and video compatibility issues.

Used a Samsung HD (720 60p) camera mounted to DSLR for hand held video, an AipTek budget HD (720 60p) video camera on a tripod near the pad (slow motion liftoffs) and a Boostervision HD Gearcam (720 30p) on the rocket.

Wow, very nice video, I subscribed to your channel. The boost played tricks with my eyes... it Did Not Spin and make whoozy... excellent flight, excellent build!!
