Enerjet - Enerjet 1340 Sounding Rocket (#1340) Gallery

The first mass-production and mass-market composite model rocket motors were Enerjets, originally developed by RDC and acquired by Centuri Engineering. These motors ranged from E to F. Later Enerjet motors would include the D21, Enerjet 30 (G) & a low J motor (Enerjet 200).

Centuri used model rocket technology to develop a line of 'professional' rocketry products for schools, industry and government. These included the 'Enerjet' series of rockets, 1340, 1340/20, 2250 & 2650. Several hobby rocketry enthusiasts were able to obtain these models and Enerjet motors in the 1970s. Some would say this was the beginnings of what is today known as 'high-power' rocketry.

The Enerjet 1340 was the most 'basic' of the Enerjet rockets. The plastic fin can and nose cone are still available in the Estes Eliminator kit. Semroc can provide the remaining parts.

I built three models of the 1340. Early pictures showed a shorter nose cone than what was later used in the kit. I modeled two different paint schemes.

I flew an Enerjet 1340 at NARAM-48 in Phoenix, AZ and later presented the model to Lee and Betty Piester. Lee keeps it on his bookcase along with other model rockets.

I actually did order some, Centuri sent me a refund about 6 months later, I used it towards the Nike-Ram starter set.

Speaking of Enerjet, does anyone outside of the Piester family have any of the larger Enerjet engines (Enerjet 30-G through Enerjet 200-J) in their collections ?
I would really like to see some pics of those.

Many (at least 25) years ago I saw what I recall to be an Enerjet 30, but do not remember what it looked like as far as labeling, etc.
