I just finished a 63% downscale based on a Baby Bertha Nose Cone. Stickers are from StickerShock.

What's with the 1B-like thing in the background? It intrigues me.

Is that the Polecat 10" or a scratch build?

It's a polecat kit. I heard he found this awesome guy who makes decals specifically for rockets! :y:

He also flew it on a big 98mm Skidmark M, but I'll let him handle that post...

David... That is a FatBoy kitbash that I built with a 24mm motor mount. I sawed the tip off the Nose Cone and glued on an Apollo Capsule and Escape Tower from Apogee. I also added some homemade retro rocket housings, vector control housings, discharge tubes, service tunnels, corrugation and custom decals to it. There are some closer pictures of it on this thread in Post #11.

Finally finished my Fat Boy.

Took 30 oz of nose-weight to deliver a 1.14 stability margin with a J315R.

Had a false start with the first can of red paint, the colour on the cap looked nothing like the colour on the rocket. Sanded back and switched to Tamiya Metallic Red which looks close to the original colour on the packaging card.

Stickershock decals were well made and easy to apply.

Can't wait to launch in a month or so when fire season finishes here in southern Australia.

Spot the difference between this photo and the previous one.

And I'm not talking about the background.......

Luckily I know I am an idiot and ordered two sets accordingly.

Very nice job, Bourney!! I spotted the difference right away but I think both vesions look great. Good luck with your launch and don't forget to post pictures.

This was built a few years back. It's flown twice. Damaged a landing pod once, but it was easily repaired. Internally, it is stock.

Cool vignette! I like the spaceship-i-fication of the Fat Boy—nice details. The whole photo, with the launch pad, looks like a scene from "Thunderbirds."

Great work. That must have been a lot of fun to build.

Yeah both were fun to build. I'm thinking of doing a steampunk version of Big Daddy along the same lines.

The launch pad was designed to be functional as well as fun-looking. The tower is on tracks and can be moved to accommodate different diameter rockets. There used to be a radar dish on top, but that got lost. Then one day a friends rocket jammed on the rod and the heat from the motor melted a lot of the plastic detail around the base. The pad still worked, but it didn't look as nice, so I retired it.

Recovery: Parachute
Stages: 1
Length: 51"
Diameter: 10"

The stable half is into short n' fat, so I gave her a Fat Boy for xmas last year. She finally built it recently, one of our cats was the inspiration. Striking resemblance if I do say so myself. Paint by Dupli-color, vinyl by Stickershock.

Here are my two FatBoys. They are the minions from the movie Despicable Me.

Wow there are some great interpretations of the Fat Boy form on here... I think I might just have to get on that "Steampunk" version... I've always thought a rocket would look great in that style...

New Fat Boy scratch build. OD Green on the BT, Metallic Red on the nose cone. Decal is from Excelsior.
