This scratch build is from a page referenced here on TRF. https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?t=11425&highlight=mike+howie .There wasn't much of a write up on it, just a line drawing, and this is what I came up with. Though they called it a drone, it
looks like an aerial torpedo to me.:D

When I got to the field, I noticed that I'd forgotten the launch lug. Some
thin CA and we're ready to go. Luckily I could glue it inside the BT70 section.;)

Good boost on a B6-4, no roll, or anything.

Next up is the Goonified Alien Invader. I can't remember if I posted a build
thread on this one. :confused2: It took a while to figure out how I was going
to do the decals. The ink jet decals I make are translucent, and any base color
would show.

On the B6-4 I had a nice clean boost, withe the parachute at apogee.
A cool effect was the sun making the engine tubes "glow".:D

When I purchased the Cestris, I was worried about all the styrene parts. I haven't
had the best luck with styrene. I wind up using too much glue and melting them.
But if I do say so myself this turned out "purdy".:D

The suggested C11-3 is great motor for this kit. Not too high, but up there
enough so there is plenty of time for the chute to open.

If it's good with a C11-3 it would be a LOT better with an E11-3 or a F12-3.

This is the Quasarone Custom Rockets "Delta 5". A fun quick build, and a good
flier. Since I dislike paint, This kit is great, as only the nose cone, (black), and
the body tube (white), need painting. The rest are the decals.

The five fins give a straight boost.

How about another goonie. :cyclops: The goonie Jayhawk. When I resized the
Jayhawk decals I made them the wrong size. I didn't notice until it was
time to put them on. But hey, it's a goonie, things a supposed to be "off".

The last couple of goonies I flew were the Goonie X-20, and the Goonie Phoenix.

I thought I had more pics of the gphoenix, guess not. :D A straight forward
build with downsized decals.

The Goonie x-20, doesn't really look all that goonified. If you didn't know the
original, it'd just be a cool rocket.

Both flew fine on B6-4s.

to be continued........

I found another pic of the goonie Phoenix! There it is sitting on the pad next to
my Harlequin.
The Harlequin is a BT60 twin 18mm cluster. Painted with Rustoleum Florescent
yellow, and green.

Very pretty on the pad and in flight with two C6-5.

A couple of single pics.

1st is the Interrogator. This is another Sirius rocket. Lots of decals, and
interesting shape make this rocket a real looker.

Next is a 'D' kit from Custom rockets, the Liberty. Nice, simple build. I painted
mine red, white, and blue to match the star decal body wraps. A good flier,
with just a slight wiggle when it left the rod. That might have been caused by
rod whip.

This next one I don't remember where I got it, or what it is called, but it has a
very strong Shrox vibe to it. Good flight on my bulk pack B6-4. Good recovery
on an itty bitty grocery bag parachute.:D

While I have flown a few mid power rockets before, the Xray-1 https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?t=11704&highlight=xray-1 was
my first purpose built mid power rocket.

I loaded it up with two E9 motors, put it on my Holverson designs launch pad,
and let her fly. It was great,(for the most part). Very straight boost, parachute opened at apogee. Everything was perfect.

Then it happened. It just kept drifting!:y:
If you look hard enough you can see where it ended up. And I do mean up.
Way up in the top of a tall tree.

While on the Quasarone web page ( https://www.quasaronerockets.com/index.html) deciding which rockets to choose, I liked both the Xray-1 and the
US Army XR-7930. Since I was on a cluster kick at the time I picked the Xray-1.
I liked so much I made this BT60, 2-18mm motor down scale. Flew good on two
B6-4s. Next time Quest C6-5 long burns.:)

I also decided to make a down scale of the XR-7930. This version is BT50, and
a single 18mm motor mount. Did real well on the B6-4.

When the movie Avatar came out, I read how the design seem to be borrowed
from the artwork of Roger Dean. And I remember having a poster of his flying
elephants back in the 70's.

Since elephants are big and powerful. A large cluster rocket seemed right. A
cluster of two 24 mm motors in a BT80 would be large (for me) and powerful
(for me again).:D I was going to call it the Pink Elephant, because pink
elephants fly,(right?) but the just had the wrong connotation for a family field. ;) So Winged Elephant it became.

Since the launch was the annual night launch, I had to have some ready.
This it the Leading Edge "Alien". Using tips I got from TRF and EMRR, I picked
an E30 to launch this heavy rocket. An E30 was perfect for me. Way up, but
with little chance of drifting off the field.

Though I didn't get any night pictures, The glowing plastic ribs, and the flashing
strobes were easy to see.

I also purchased the Leading Edge "Phantom" for the night launch. I like the
look of the fins. The model used basswood for the fins. Those points on the
end are sharp! I jabbed myself several times sanding them.

The flight on two C6-3 was good, and the recovery on the "spider web"
parachute was soft. No broken fin tips.

There are only two rows of LEDs on the Phantom, so I wouldn't want it to go
any higher than the two c's put it.

Last year the Phoenix went unstable on me. So this year I added nose weight.
Unfortunately, I either put too much nose weight in, or I used a Quest C6-3,
and the rocket was underpowered. That's what I get for not having a scale
to check the weight before launch. :eyepop:

My last night flight is a scratch build I call the Lightning. It's a 24mm motor
mount in a BT80 main body, BT60 upper body, LED in the tail cone, 3 strips up
the side, and those little jewelry flashers in the transition. The daytime check
out flight was nominal. However, the night launch had parachute problems.
After the crash I found that the shockcord, and the shroud lines of the
parachute were all tangled. The only damage to the rocket is a slight crumple
to the BT80 body, easily repairable.

My last rocket is a scratch build for one of those key chain cameras. I call it
the Gamera. From the flying turtle. :dark: It's a BT60 body with six clipped
delta fins, and a rolled paper nose cone. The camera attaches to the side of
the rocket at the transition from the red section to the blue section.

This last rocket isn't mine. It's a kitbash one of the NARHAMS members did. I
like the sorta Bomarc look to it. I just might have to make one for myself.

Bumped for gallery havesting.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I flew this model at the last NARHAMS launch, Mike. Flies great and everyone loved it.

I keep a couple of your old models flying, Mike. This one is by far the best. I regularly (for me anyway) fly the 2 motor spaceplane, and the big SST glider. Ihaven't gotten around to fixing the clear fin on the big Thor-Able, but it's on the list.
