8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 8086k Limited Edition Processor Sweepstakes

https://game.intel.com/8086sweepstakes/

What is the 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8086k Limited Edition processor?

To celebrate the anniversary of 40 years of x86 processor architecture, Intel is releasing a limited edition processor, which will be available in limited quantities and for a limited time.

What’s so special about this processor?

This processor is Intel’s first 5Ghz out of the box consumer desktop processor, featuring 6 cores and 12 threads, and is unlocked for overclocking*. The product will come in special commemorative packaging celebrating this special anniversary.

How can I enter to win an 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8086K processor?

If you are a resident in one of the applicable countries/regions then you will be able to enter. Entries can be made on www.intel.com/8086sweepstakes . Entry will open on June 7th 2018 5:00 pm PST, which will be signaled by a countdown timer on this webpage prior to this date and time. Entry will be open for 24 hours only, and the closure of entry will be signaled by a countdown timer.

Actually, if I win one, I'll just sell it. I intentionally avoid Intel products as much as possible if I have an option to do so. The following video is NOT made by an AMD fanboy or a fanboy of any other competitor to Intel:

Besides, at the current Computex, Intel was bragging about its 28 core CPU, then AMD did this. Because of AMD's Infinity Fabric technology which allows them spread a processor across multiple, much smaller dies thereby greatly increasing die yields, it will undoubtedly be cheaper than the Intel 28 core CPU:

AMD Will Trade Your Intel Core i7-8086 Win For A 16-Core 1950X Threadripper

https://wccftech.com/amd-will-trade-your-intel-core-i7-8086-win-for-a-16-core-1950x-threadripper/

In what is one of the most blunt, and brilliant, marketting campaigns ever, AMD has announced that they will freely trade your Intel Core i7-8086 Limited Edition processor for their Threadripper 1950X CPU. This is one of the greatest deals we have heard of and if you are one of the lucky winners that get a Core i7-8086 from the Intel Sweepstakes – AMD is giving you a choice to trade that in for a much more powerful CPU.

The few caveats to the campaign is that it is only valid for the first 40 trades (Intel will be giving away 8086, Intel Core i7-8086 CPUs) and you must be from the US. According to AMD and due to certain legal complications they could not extend this campaign to the rest of the world:

"Our competitor recently kicked off a sweepstakes to celebrate the first 40 years of the x86 processor by giving away 8,086 limited edition processors.

We appreciate the advancements they’ve helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, we’re ready to take it from here. That’s why we’re giving 40 performance-hungry enthusiasts in the U.S. an opportunity to celebrate the next 40 years of high-performance computing by trading in their commemorative processor prize for our CPU that enables you to work, play and create with heavy metal.

The first 40 U.S.-based winners of the Intel® 8th Gen Core i7-8086k Limited Edition Sweepstakes (which opened on June 7, 2018 and closed on June 8, 2018) (“Competitor Sweepstakes”) to complete certain steps will be offered the opportunity to exchange their new, in-box prize processor for a flagship 16-core AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 1950X processor built for the gamers and creators who need a processor that can do it all. Those steps will be communicated on this webpage on June 25 at 1:00:00 PM EDT. Check back on June 25 at 1:00:00 PM EDT for complete details on how to participate."

I heard that AMD needs those 40 8086K's to power the fab computers building Ryzen :) J/K I think I sold my AMD stock too soon. Bought at 10.80, sold last week at 15.95 after only 4 months or so. Not too bad. It'll likely go to 20.
