(IMHO: The Estes Hex-3 was a waste of both time and money ($5) , more importantly, time)

The official engine is a C6-0.

but there is no recovery system, it just blows the ejection charge into the air.
Do I really have to stop and buy engines before I fly it tomorrow?

You ever been hit with a falling engine? There are folks here that have been.

The discarded engine can also be a fire hazard.

Use the correct engine.

The Hex-3 doesn't eject the engine, whether it's a booster type or not. It has a motor clip.

My concern in using a C6-5 would be having the ejection charge fire when it was close to the ground coming down (fire hazard if it's dry where you fly) or even after it is back on the ground (same thing).

But it's not going to hurt the rocket itself to use one.

Big issue for me is whether the ejection charge will fire before it lands. Ejection after landing = bad. I’d feel safer with a C6-3, at least until you know what the normal flight time is.
