It was a nice day at Gibson Ranch Park, although it was very cold when we got there. It was also very windy. I was going to launch my new one, Airborne, with a load of miniature paratroopers. But there weren't very many kids there, and because of the wind, I decided to only launch Make Tube Fly With Fire. The motor was a G53FJ. The up part was good...

The down part? Not so much. I had the Chute Release set for 300', and it released, but the chute got tangled somehow. It hit very hard, and is not really repairable. Its second and last flight. RIP

Maybe I'll build a new one someday. I do like the design.

Gibson Ranch is a nice park, and there are often horseback riders there. It's also in the flight path of McClellan airfield, which is a former air force base. This C-17 flew over us, low and slow. It said "Memphis" on the tail, so maybe from Tennessee. It's the first time I've seen a C-17 fly over Gibson Ranch. Very dramatic!

I had some trouble with my AltimeterThree the last time I used it. I reinstalled the app on my phone, and it worked great this time.
Make Tube Fly With Fire got to 956'.

A girl from work wanted to go, but she couldn't make it. She really wants to go to a Snow Ranch launch. She's fascinated with the Ranch.

Great day, and not nearly as crowded as last time. The wind made me downsize a lot of my flights after I walked across the neighboring cow pasture for 1/2 mile to retrieve my first 1200 foot flight. The chute release helped to keep the larger ones close by and I went with "F" class motors instead of G's. I did have a lawn dart on the two stage after the sustainer failed to ignite. It was remarkably OK and flew successfully later in the day. Hoping the weather holds for Snow Ranch!!
