Let's use this thread as a way to show off multistage awesomeness.

I'll link to all of the active builds that I can find in the next post to provide an overview of the multistage rockets that TRF-ers are currently working on. If you want me to link to a particular build, please post a link or PM me.

Please post your multistage flight reports, including data either in the form of 1) altimeter plots and/or 2) video. Feel free to ask questions about multistage building techniques, flight electronics, etc. All levels of rocketry are welcome (LPR, MPR and HPR)!

(Hopefully, I'll have something to contribute after this weekend.)

I will. It won’t be February, alas. The TWA launch is the day of Cider Summit and the WOOSH launch is the day of Distill America.

I'll run it by the resident rocket scientist and see if she wants to start on either the Mini Comanche 3 or the Comanche 3 that we have. I'm sure we'll have all sorts of questions, such as 'How do we make accommodations for our Firefly altimeter'? :D

As soon as my Wildman BF order arrives I'm in with one of my glacial paced builds.

My full scale Sparrow-HV Arcus sounding rocket is still very active, just waiting to fly the 1/2 scale version somewhere.... definite Ludicrous P-N Full scale fincan design complete, file to machine being done now...

And the 2-stage Punisher is being rebuilt as we speak after it's 30,000ft + flight & disassembly...lol

Guess that makes 4 two stagers going on all at once for me...:dark:
I need my own subheading...lol

These builds are both ludicrously awesome and awesomely ludicrous!

Hard to believe I have not finished this one yet, I just got one coat of primer and have not put the finishing coats or decals on it. Maybe this will be the year I complete and maiden it. Two stage: One 18mm booster to 4x13mm sustainers.

Maybe not current builds, but I need to make some repairs to my Excalibur 3, 18-18-13, the coupler around the gapped sustainer gets pretty burned up, but it may fly again this year, would like to strap an 808-keychain camera to that one. Also, the little brother: Sting Part Deux (13 mm downscale of an Excalibur 2), that 13 mm "Booster 5" unit also gets burned up pretty well, but easy enough to print up another one on cardstock.

Great timing on this thread. I am planning on multiple multi Stage builds in the next year. Most of them low power including a mod of the Estes Red Nova to 2 stager

First project is complete but yet to have a flight . Leviathan modified to Parelell Staged boosters. First attempt with E9s in the boosters resulted in a double CATO on the pad

I am planning to do something very similar to this as a future build. I'll be watching with interest. Note to self....stick to D12s in the boosters.

Thanks for the links. These are great reads. I love MIRV gryphon!

instead of using thread tools and subscribing I too shall post alerting others to the fact that I have indeed subscribed to this thread.

You mean like this?
The rise and fall of a Ventris Kitbash
https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?t=135421

For the record, I loved your Ventris + boosters build. That is what inspired me to pursue something with boosters for my MPR multi-stage build. I think I'm going to salvage some parts from a damaged big daddy, stretch it and strap some boosters too it. But that may have to wait until next winter. I have too many irons in the proverbial fire as it is.

I know the feeling. I have parts laying around for a 1/35 Atlas Agena. And also for making a Big Daddy and a Ventris into a Pauite-Tomahawk. And -someone- (Glen) keeps whispering into my ear that a 54mm motor mount Quinstar would be awesome. And my 1/100 shuttle is getting to tricky bits.

<sigh>

Ok. I know what to do...

Make a staged Estes Blender. 18mm to 13mm, with a Centuri B4-3 upper.

I attempted two multistage flights with my Magnum Payloader at MDRA last weekend. I originally built this kit in the early 90's, and it has crashed and been rebuilt at least 4 times. The only original piece left on it was the booster. (Notice my use of the past tense.)

The first flight (D12-0 --> D12-5) with the original booster didn't go well. The booster stuck and burned, but the second flight with a custom cluster booster was great (3xD12-0 --> D12-5). I was having issues with my altimeters all day, so I'm already breaking my own rules about needing data for flight reports. I'll try to get some better multistage flights (w/ data!) in the next few weeks.

I finally successfully flew my two stage “Double Trouble” at MDRA on a J760 to a I125 on Sunday. It flew extremely well, video to follow...

Congrats on an awesome flight! I saw it fly and then saw you return with the booster. I was afraid you lost the sustainer. What did you use for tracking?
