Where's a good place to get good quality, cheap ematches?
And, also, where's a good place to get igniters for BIG motors. Like M and above, (without having to need a special permit).
Thank you all,
Ben

If you have time and patience, Rocketflite has been selling do-it-yourself igniter pyrogen for years. Make your own igniters in any size and shape for a fraction of the cost... Check their dealers page for a source near you:

Curious, why are igniters referred to as "starters" now?

Regulatory "advice" was the reason for the name change. Bill Stine explains during the NARAM manufacturer's forum in 2014 when he was still running Quest.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Igniters are regulated, starters aren't.

We use these, no permits or magazine storage required. https://*************************

Ok, I'll bite, why are these so cheap from this source?: https://*************************/

MJG sells these direct for $68.50 per box of 80. These folks sells them for $29.00 for 80?

Great price, might have to order more from https://*************************/... :)

For e-matches, you can find them on eBay from China. Legal? Caveat emptor.

These cheap e-matches used to be available on Amazon under a variety of names, but now it looks like Ebay is the only place to get them.

Yeah, looks like Amazon terminated its relationship with BILUCSON.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Typical case of seems to good to be true. My concern is that they're seconds or somehow not up to the same quality standards as the ones purchased directly from MJG.

OP asked about ematches. I don't recommend kits for ematches. I didn't like them and could never get the reliability for ejection purposes. I constructed matches completely from scratch as I had an appropriate shear, achieved near 100% reliability
and gave up because there are sources available now and not worth the time or trouble. Again, I'm talking about ematches, motor starters or what we used to call ignitors is a different story. Kits are fine there. Kurt

I don't see anything to determine one way or the other. But we have at least two TRFers who ponied up so we'll know soon enough.

Good question about the low price, I bought a few packs from MJG at an event a while back. I wonder if they get you on shipping charges or if they unload the 1m leads cheaper because of a lower demand from the fireworks industry?

Longer leads cost more proportionally .....based on amount/length of copper wire. Think about it. Head & pyro same on all...only length is difference/cost of wire. Longer=heavier=higher ship cost.

I'm not sure what happened to the quote box in my post above. The source I linked above was much cheaper for the same 1m initiators, which makes one wonder why. Are they fake, is it a misprint, or overstock?

I was offering a suggestion to the second question on the original post.

I sent an email to them asking what shipping was for 3 boxes to me..
They replied ..

Hello, we appreciate your inquiry. This shipment should be around $26 plus or minus a few. Anything else, just ask!
Thank you!

well, I may very well regret this later, but the bilusocn e-matches are still available from the manufacturer: www.bilusocn.com

$15.15 for 100 with free shipping...I've got ~250 on hand, but that somehow doesn't feel like enough...seeing as I literally NEVER have time to fly, however, it's probably several lifetimes worth. I make no claims that it's legal to ship this from Hong Kong, so you're on your own...that said, I've made one order from amazon before they got wise, and one more from the manufacturer.

For initiators, I've heard of folks augmenting these with a sliver of blue thunder, YMMV. Maybe a dip in some NC lacquer with a bit of BP first... The chip head size is not small, however, so watch your throat clearance. I've used about 50 on ground tests with various projects and have not had one fail. This makes me sad because it makes me realize that I haven't been to the flight line in >2 years...my, how time flies (unlike my rockets!). Time for a new year's resolution! 6 club launches this year!

I got bilusocn matches through amazon previously, and they all worked fine. Like you, 100 didn't seem like enough, so I made an order directly from bilusocn about two weeks ago after reading your post. Got the Paypal receipt, but no other communications. Now the website looks different, and the $15.15 for 100 product doesn't even show up for sale, anymore! Dealing with China is a gamble......
