Next 10 "Sceond Fleet" Rockets: (640a & b - 645) Note: Many in this set look very similar but are special purpose Competition rockets.

18 to 13mm Taper Paper PD & SD Rockets: These Tapered Tracing vellum bodied competition PD or SD rockets feature a replacable vellum body mounted on a reuseable 13mm very short motor tube/ Fin Can. This allowed quick changing badly burned vellum bodies on the field if necessary. Type a used a vellum/styrofoam plug shoulder/ nosecone while b used a Pratt Hobbies .010" thick BT-20 size Ultra light nosecone and shoulder.
a: 24 to 13mm Taper Paper PD Rocket: Like 640 these PD rockets sported the reuseable 13mm motor tube/fin can with the added space for up to 48" 1/4mil Mylar chutes. Tower launched both 640 and 641 were very competitive with single wrap .5oz glass lay-up BTC rockets.
c: 40mm x 500mm FAI style Paper Tiger PD & SD rockets: These Super Light weight Tracing Vellum/ 3/64" 3ply plwood & styrofoam PD or SD rockets are the weekend worrier FAI style rocket that have proven to be very competitive with BTC single wrap .5oz fiberglass PD Rockets.
d1 & d2: 13mm competition SD VDM-3 Paper Tiger rockets: Another type of super light weigh Tracing vellum and waferglass fin SD rockets.
a1: One Long Night" Illuminated Payloader: a 2003 addition to my night launch fleet was intended to be a color change Yellow cone using a 5000mcd Red Led in the nose and various color "finger light LED's in the clear payload section. To cut down on weight the body is covered in Metallic Red Vinyl with Silver "Artfoil" and metallic red vinyl on the .063" Styrene fins, transition and body. The D-12 powered bird had 3 great night flights until snapping the oval elastic shockcord resulting in loss of the lower portion of the rocket.
a2: One Long Night Illuminated Payloader: To reuse the payload section a new D12 power section was built this time with added Cyalume tubes added to the styene fin tips a new 6 LED string was placed in a 7mm sanded clear tube to slide into the payload section along with the color change Yellow/Red Nosecone. This rebuild flew great for about 8 years until a D12-5 cato ruined the lower section.
b: One Long Night Illuminated Payloader: This latest rebuild reused the entire upper section while adding a new BT-55 Lower power section with slightly altered fins to allow larger .5" x 4" cyalume sticks on each fin to help recovery the body should the Stainless steel shockcord anchor fail. model rcovers on a 24" X-form Nylon chute.
a & b: 10.5mm 1/4-1/2A Rotaroc HD rockets: Faired pretty well in local and regional competition until the 1/4A2 and 1/2A2 motors become Oop. Now these two HD models are only sport fliers when I get in the mood:)
Arcie-II RC-BG (My first RC rocket): Another GREAT edmonds aerospace kit the Arcie-II flies on a D12-3 and is a really fun first RC-BG. I still intend to paper the wings at some point but it's a fun flying RC-BG.
Centuri Vulcan (cloned): Always liked the looks and performance of the very light weight Cardstock and plastic Nose Rocket. after it's first flight I added 26g of clay nose weight to straighten out the flight path:) It flies so well on just about any weather day I had to Down-Scale one to fly on MMX-II power. What A hoot in either size.

Next 10 "Second Fleet:" Rockets: (646 - 654b)

O"le Bat & Ball Scream Nite Odd-Roc: Dollar Store bat & ball with a little help from .080" clear Lexan fins Painted to resemble Bat wings and a BT-50 core tube make this Odd-Roc a fine flying D12 rocket. 4- 5000mcd LED in the ball light up the rocket for Night flying with added cyalumes taped to the fin/body joints just for fun.
Estes SnapShot: Another 110 film Camera This one is fun to fly and gets fairly good photos on a 12picture roll.
Clone Estes Midget 2-Stage: This Rocket was always a favorite 2-stage flying on 18mm Short motors. This Clone has been adapted to use 13mm motors. Decals are all custom made by me. Is a hoot to fly on Oop A10-0 or A3-0 boosters with long delay upper stage 13mm A3-6T's. Ah the good old days of BP motors:)
Estes Patriot Missile 1:10 Scale: This was one of my Daughters ECRM A division sport scale entries that I've merged into Second Fleet. A Great flying model.
a-f: Art Applewhites 13mm UFO's: These 6 saucers are used for Oop motor testing of very old Booster motors from the 1970's.
Turkey Trottin & Pumpkin Seat: Thanksgiving Theme Odd-Roc as a fun build and flys well on a D12-3. It also makes a very nice Dining room table center piece during the hoidays:)
13mm Tasmanian Devil "Qualifier" HD: George Gassaway designed this Spin UP & Down helicopter years ago, I've down-Scaled it to fly on 13mm and MMX motors. Funny thing is no matter which version is flown they all get about the same 30feet altitude LOL!
ReCycle: Another Oop motor test rocket using recycled parts found in the trees and around the launch field. Mostly Quest parts and a spar body tube from the basement.
a: CD Spool Rocket: using two old CD's and an 18mm core "body" this spool rocket gets all kinds of looks at check-in. Flies Great on A-C6-0 motors and back flip tumbles back down. Though CD's are a from of Polycarbonate sandwich they still crack alot when flown in cold weather.
b: Spool Daz! Polycarbonate disc Odd-Roc: To remove the tumble recovery disc breakage problem I cut a couple 4" dics from .040" thick Clear Polycarbonate GE Lexan. Coupled with an 18/19mm motor tube this particular Odd-Roc has logs over 55 flights as of this date.

Next 10 "Second Fleet" Rockets: (655 - 664).

13mm Maple Seed Helicopter Rocket: Cloned from plans on the interenet I built this 13mm version to fly on 13mm 1/4A-A10 motors. It's a great demo rocket for small fields.
Custom Rockets Skybird: This Night Launch converted LED lighted rocket.
Quest Astra: Quests "alpha" was a fun Cub Scout pack build, I finished mine in blues just for fun.
Pot-O-Gold St. Pat's Day Odd-Roc: another Holiday Theme rocket the Pot-O-Gold is a conglomerate of lots of items picked up a Micheals & Dollar stores. Clover Fins. Flies on A10 motors.

Centuri SST Shuttle: Semroc Cloned, This was one of my First Fleet favorite gliders.
Quest Shuttle Intrepid: another SST type glider fliers pretty well.
Simroc Astro Jr.: Another Fun "first rocket" used for Scout in many troop builds.
FlisKit Thing-A-Ma-Jig: Another outstanding design by Jim Flis! The Tri fin unit is makes this rocket easy to build and a great 18mm motor flier.
Fliskit Triskelion: This Star Trek inspired Rocket is an outstanding flier. I made the custom decals.

Next 10 "Second Fleet" Rockets: (665 - 674)

Simroc/ model missiles Inc. Aerobee-Hi, 1:14 scale: Had to have this Historic rocket in the fleet. Another NRL rocket my father had a lot to do with:)
Simroc Little Joe -II, 1: 70th Scale: Another of the Old time Centuri Kits from "first fleet" that I had to replace. The Simroc kit is a very nice starting point for this scale rocket.
Centuri Lance Corporal 2-stage: an original kit from the 70's I just decided to build. An awesome little flying machine on A8-0/A8-5 motor combination.
Centuri KC-6 Space Shuttle: I've had this kit on the peg-board for so long I really can't recall exactly when I bought it. an outstanding design with the little "orbiter" being the powered portion of the stack. Flies very well on C6-3's though it was designed for C5-3's. Both orbiter and Mother Ship Glide very well after just a little fiddling with the glide tabs. an outstanding little flying machine.
F-104G 1:18 Scale PMC Cluster: This 1: 18th Scale PMC was a hoot to build. needing to save as much mass as possible all the interior parts were scrapped and most unnecessary interior plastic and parts removed. Now Complete with Wing Tip MMX-II powered Sidewinders and belly rack Sidewinders wired to launch as the 3- D12 clustered F-104G roars off the 6foot launch rod. Have not flown it yet in the all up configuration but did well on it's first test flight with 3-D12-3 motors.
Phantom NITE Nike-Apache: This rocket was designed using Estes Nike-Apache Transition & Nosecone but replacing all the other tubing and fins with clear Polycarbonate and fabrcated .010" Clear sanded lexan fins. Each fin has a single LED inbedded the Mirror Silver mylar covered motor tube has 6- LED Up Lights and , Transition Apache & nose cone also have multi-color LEDs allowing the entire rocket to Illuminate using 2 - 3Volt Lithium Cells. Fights quite will.
Estes Astron Vision Digital Video & Still Camera Rocket: I believe this was Estes Last attempt at a camera rocket, it is an almost ready to fly Rocket with a video or still operation Camera in the nosecone. Takes very nice photos once you get the timing down on the launch pad.
Centuri Orion: Another "first fleet" replacement this kit sat on a peg for at least 3 decades before I decided to build it. I intended to finish the rocket with Rustoleum Metallic Silver over Black but after appling the Rustoleum Black/Copper flake base coat I just had to reverse the paint scheme with only the fins, Body wraps and Nose tip in Silver Flake. That did mean I had to reproduce all the Decals in other colors but I think it came out pretty well.
Scratch Up-Scale Scout 1D: This BT-70 UpScale of Estes Original Scout is a single D12-5 powered rocket used to Open Naram-50 & Estes 50th Annversary.
Finished in Rustoleum Gold MetalFlake over Black/copper flake with a red Nosecone it's an exceptional flying machine that returns on a 15" Nylon Hemi Home made chute.
Estes Interceptor-E: Great Up-Scale of the original Estes Interceptor mine is finished in Rustoleum Silver Metalflake over black and set up to fly on D12-3's.
While it doesn't get great altitude (around 150') on a single D12-3 it's a fine looking and flying model rocket.

Next 9 "Second Fleet" Rockets: (675 - 682).

Cloned Estes Nike-X: Had one of these fine flying sport rockets but in the day, just decided to clone one.
a: Venus Rocketry - Cork Screw 2 Rotor Sport Helicopter: Another Great flying Helicopter the Cork Screw is a fasnating design using only 2 rotors.
b: Venus Rocketry - Cork-Screw Open: Another view of the Cork Screw Sport Helicopter with the rotor/fins deployed.
 The M.A.G.P.I.E.: All cardstock Lander type rocket flies on 13mm Plugged or -0 booster motors. Great Cardstock Demo Rocket;
b1: 1/4A PeeWee Payloader & payloads: Designed for NAR Payload Altitiude competition to fill out the missing motor classes from 1/8A to 1/2A These rocket and 6.2mm x 70mm 3.5g payloads were proposed and accepted as provisional events for the pink book before the New Rules were adopted last year. 1/4A carried 2 loads.
c1: 1/A PeeWee Payloader & Payloads. Designed for Nar Payload Altitude competition 1/2A Payloaders carried 3 - 3.5g 6.2mm x 70mm sand filled payloads.
Hearts & Flowers Clustered Odd-Roc: This Valentines Day Holiday Theme Odd-Roc is a hoot to fly. Candy boxes and plastic flowers with a fabricated Candy Kiss nosecone this Odd-Roc flies on a Core D12-3 and two C6-0 boosters. Recovers on a 24" nylon chute.
Kit Bash Cluster KBK-10 & display: A Club Kit Bash this rocket was designed to use every piece in the prepared "Kits" including the bags and instuctions sheets.
Flies on 2, 4, or 6 motor cluster combinations of 2 or 4 D12's and 2 -empty 18mm casings or 2- C6-3 motors. Recovery is on a pair of plastic chutes made from the parts bags. First Flight on 2-D12-3 & 2-C6-3's was a complete success at ECRM-37 6-18-2010.
Eric Truax CardStock Christmas Bell: All Cardstock Christmas 2009 Odd-Roc I just had to Down-Scale for Micro Maxx as well. Both fly very nicely.

Next 10 "Second Fleet" Rockets: (683 - 692).

Snark SM-62 Missile 1/96th Scale PMC: This Revell kit called to me to convert into a flying model. trouble is this had not been done as far as I could tell. First the rear of the missile was way to small to accept any motor type that would have enough thrust to get it off the ground, by removing part of the aft fuselage I was able to insert a 13mm motor and suffer tube. Next problem was moving the CG. far enough forward to make the rocket stable which took 30g of nose weight. As it ended up the Snark is on the heavy side at 82.3g but gets decent altitude on A10-3T's.
Corporal Missile & Transport PMC: Another Revell kit that was a perfect 13mm conversion. By most PMC conversions this one was truely a breeze:
Vostok-1 & Options PMC: This AirFix kit gave me several problem areas but also made for a very impressive finised Vostok-1 Flying on a single A10-3T
recovers on a 15" plastic chute.
Baby Bertha (Clone-MiniRail Test): 3" x 30" Black Crepe streamer brings this Clone down after several Rail Button tests.
65th B-Day Rocket-K2 4-D12 cluster: Had to build something as my 65th birthday happened to land on the clubs November 16, 2013. It was a really fun build and flight.
Estes X-Prize Lucky Seven (1:48.0879 Scale): An Almost all plastic X-Prize kit it was a very quick and easy build. That can be used as a qualification Rocket.
Scratch Narhams BT-60 Logo Rocket: built as a candidate for Narhams 50th Anniversary kit rocket. It's a fine flying replica of our patch rocket.
Estes Gold Strike ARTF mini Rail button test rocket: A very nice flying rail button test rocket.
Estes Silver Streak ARTF Micro Rail Button test rocket: Another very nice flying quick build test rocket.
Apogee Gyro-Chaser HD rocket; Apogee internal rotor helicopter recovery rocket. not that difficult to build but not that great a duration HD either:)

Last 8+1 "Second Fleet" Rockets (693 - 700 + 978). Yep! That's the lot of them LOL: My Curent Second fleet of Standard LPR & MPR Rockets stands today at 300 flyable rockets. Mostly stored in my 10' x 10' x 12' Shed but also scattered in just about all rooms of the house(except kitchen and Bathroom- and I'm working on a MM Polaris-UGM-27 Missle for the bathroom:)

F-104G StarFighter 1:72nd Scale PMC: One of my favorite sport flying PMC's that is also good enough to be an all weather competition entry this Rocket and Clear Base is fairly new to the fleet with the F-104 only having 4 flights to it's log. A great flying 13mm A10-3T rocket.
Saab-AJ37 Viggen 1:100th Scale PMC: Another Competition Ready 13mm A10-3T only powered PMC it is a Hoot to fly just for the fun of it.
Scud-B R17 Russian Launch system 1:48 Scale PMC: The target of my Patroit battery our Scud-B Launches from it's mobile Launcher/Carrier diorama on an A10-3T motor also. Fun to put the Patriot battery on one side of the Launch range layout and the Scud-B on the other:)
X-15A-2 1:32nd Scale PMC: Largest X-15 in my Fleet that still flies on D12 or E9 motors it's a nice size for photos of the slow lift off.
Douglas X-3 Stilleto 1: 48th PMC: The X-3 was a challange in that the twin 13mm motor tubes had to be spliced into the fairly short BT-60 main interior body tube.
Flying on a pair of A10-3T motors it's a good looking rocket on the pad and in the air.
X-15A-2 1:48th Scale PMC: The other "Special Hobbies" X-15 in the fleet that flies on a D12-3 might possibly do better on a D12-5 as early ejection on it's first flight snapped off a wing. which is almost repaired for it's next fight.
Red Crayon Odd-Roc; This Candy tube "Crayon" is 1.0" in diameter and 8.0" long making it a perfect size to fly on 13mm motors. a great Demo rocket.
Narhams Gold: Our club 50th Anniversary Rocket contest Winning Design we contracted with Jim Flis to produce 139 numbered kits of this single stage very KEWL looking rocket. I altered it just a little by extending the Upper section to allow use of a fire fly altimeter in the forward payload bay. Great flying rocket now available without production number for Fliskits.

Closing for now, there are another 6 rockets that could be shown that were repaired and repainted Daughter Kathleens Rockets from the 90's but at some point she may want them back so they are held in trust, lovingly preserved for the possible next generation of Rocketeers up in Anchorage Alaska :)
One that I will Share here is her #978 Holly Mackerel "Floatation duration" rocket we designed and produced for our clubs 1992 Maryland Funny Meet - reigonal competiiton. Constructed of Blue SM styrofoam covered in Mod-Podge with .063" Lexan fins the thing turned out to be too heavy for our projected C5-3 motor so we had to cut many 3/4" holes all over the foam parts and punch 3/8" holes in the Lexan fins. So it went from a Flying Bass to the "Holy Mackerel". the ODD-ROC flies well on a D21-4. As memory serves, I believe she placed 2nd in the event:)
I have a lot of PMC's projects awaiting my attention and a couple new LPR's that I'll up-load as they become flyable. until then Hope these photos will give you folks some things to think about beyond the many KEWL kits out there:)
