I really really like the aerotech 29mm line.

29/40-120 case-
E16W, E23T, F22J, F40W, F52T, G53FJ, G64W, G76G, and G138T (W is White, J and FJ are smokey, G for Green, T is Blue. Be aware the smaller AT blues aren't very blue. The G138T is very blue, also it and the F loads require hazmat, the others do not) Reloads in the case can be had CHEAP from hobbylinc and most other vendors. G76G's go for $10-11.
The 60 has the F37W and F62T.
The 100 has the G54W, and G104T,
The 120 has the G77R, G79W, G25W. (G25 is haz, other 2 are not)
The 180 case has a G75J (hazmat) load thats a full G.
The 180 case has High power loads for H128W, H165R, and H238T no haz $19
The 240 case has High power loads for H180W, H210R, H220T, H250G, and H97J (H97 is haz, rest non haz) $22
The 360 case has High power loads for H268R, and I200W non hazmat. $30

Well worth cutting and pasting, or at the very least bookmarking, for later reference.

I've flown a ton of, and always enjoyed: F40Ws, G53FJs, G76Gs, H128Ws, H165Rs, H180Ws, H210Rs, H250Gs, and I200Ws. All great stuff. My 29/40-120 cases were definitely my most used hardware.

Thanks... These motors are a really economical way to fly a lot of rockets really easily. I can put just about any of them in my Optima and have a great flight. going super high and super fast on a DD flight is really cool, but there's something to the simplicity of tossing a few loaded motors in a cargo pocket, and just fly, recover, prep in field and walk right back to the pads. boom boom boom.
 
I like my CTI 29mm 3 grain. The motors are only $20-25. There's always HAZMAT on the CTI motors, but if you have a local vendor at a launch, then you don't have to worry about HAZMAT. It's also really great to support local vendors, not always the online people.

Get a 29/40-120 case and fly the heck out of it, the loads are all cheap and no hazmat. When you decide to go into HPR, get either an AT 29/240 set or a CTI 3G set. Some dealers used to give you the CTI 3G cert load when you bought the hardware... don't know if that's true anymore.

Actually the cert deal is the case free -- closure, etc. not included -- with purchase of the reload. Still appears to be a thing, don't certify without it ;) . Some will even let you use it as a credit towards any hardware, such as the starter kit, but CTI does just send the 3G case so some have an excess of them.

Note that if one wants to push the max. *without certification*, there aren't a lot of high G motors. The 29/40-120 only goes up to 118 N-s except for the high power G138. The G80 SU/DMS is 137 N-s. The 29/180 has the G75 but is an expensive combo if you're not using any of the other loads for the case. CTI, however, has 2 high G motors for the 29-3G, the G54 at 159 N-s and the G33 at 143.

(OTOH, if you fly with a club with a max. F on the low power pads, you might want the 29/40-120 for the F40 and F52. CTI does not make a high F of any kind.)

I haven't heard of ANY deals on CTI hardware+loads since the fire of 2+ years ago...

David thank you for this incredibly helpful post - I'm so glad I found it. (not the part I quoted - the rest of it :)) Without a doubt the most concise and useful explanation of AT29mm RMS motor options I've found - and believe my I've been looking.

One aspect of motor hardware not touched upon (in this thread) is the use of reload spacers. My interest here is primarily in Aerotech's 29mm system.

For me being new to the MPR/HPR side of things, it's seems reasonable to begin with the 29/40-120, I already have one, and then adding a 29/120 along with the spacer kit as I progress towards my 1st goal of L1 certification. And then in the future acquire a 29/360 as I continue on to L2 certification.

Using buyrocketmotors prices:

#1) 29/120 Complete + 29/360 complete + cases for all other sizes = $315.00 before shipping

#2) 29/120 Complete + 29/360 complete + 29mm Reload spacer kit = $206.99 before shipping. Savings over #1 = $108.01

I realize that in some circumstances using just two cases can lead to problems. For instance, the 29/360 possibly being too long for a heavy stubby rocket.

Pros and Cons anyone?
 
You wouldn’t need two complete motors. Both cases and one set of closures; unless you wanted to fly both at the same time or have them both loaded and ready to go.

Yeah, the idea is to have two complete motors. I recently lost my 1st 29/40-120 on it's maiden burn pushing my Kraken on it's maiden flight. That double loss made me realize that it's a good idea to have spares of anything I can afford.....

Personally, I'd get a 180 and 360 case with an RAS. The odds you'll ever want to fly 60 or 100 loads is next to zero. I wound up selling off my 60, 100, and even 120 cases. Admittedly, the 120's are very very useful, but I kept a pair of 29 40-120's and they fill that role nicely. Had AT released a green for the 120 case, I'd pick up another pair of those and dump the hobby line case.

Don't buy complete motors if you're getting an RAS.... it's a forward closure. So buy one complete, one rear, one RAS, and one case.

Personally I own two of the Hobbyline 29/40-120's. And a complete 29/180 and 29/240 with the seal disc. The 29/360 offers just the two loads. And my 38 set starts at 360.. I find my go-to 29 HPR loads are the H128W and the H180W. The hobbyline G53 for low and slow and the G76 to test out any 29mm HPR bird as it has a lot of kick off the pad. No Hazmat options are always a good thing.

Well now that you mention it, I do have a bunch of saved html pages and PDF files of motor & reload info. They're just buried in a subfolder somewhere on one of my computers. I guess I should do a search of all the drives and find that stuff. It could be useful...... :p

One of the reasons I want to go the RAS route is because of the fact that some cases have so few reload options. Doing more with less, motor case wise, allows more funds available for buying more reloads.

And yeah, I loved the G76. Really sweet green flame and my Kraken leaped off the pad like a bat out of hell. It was cool watching that bird fly!
