I'm looking for a on-board camera, it needs to be small enough that it can be attached to small LPR rockets.
Maybe like a keychain camera, or something of that sort.
My budget is $25.
I'd prefer to buy from someone here on TRF.
PM me for details.

Thanks,

You can snag some dirt cheap ones from Amazon (around 10 bucks IIRC ) but it really is hit or miss with them, most have no user interface and you can't do much with them, in my experience. Check with Whitney @ https://www.bayouratrocketry.com and see what he has, he may have a used one he will be willing to part with. All around good guy.

Can +1 on Bayou Rat. He has a $25 camera that he tests and guarantees to work.

Or, you can take the extra money you'll have from not trying to get that 15 foot chute shipped and get a nice camera. ;)

Aw, I can afford both and then some.
Lets just say I have a BIG project in the works..
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,

Its real neat to see a young enthusiast such as yourself. I checked your cool facebook page in addition. The 808 is ok and as stated above- Bayou Rat is the most competent & reliable source IMHO. A better camera is the mobius which I prefer with excellent video. For either camera, the challenge is mounting it safely. There are 2 current options readily available:
A. external placement-see Landrau's 3D 808 and Mobius shrouds -advantage cheaper than internal mounting; however increased drag and possible flight instability if utilized on rockets with smaller diameters than 54 mm. Alternative-if you have access to a 3D printer-on Thingiverse-there are plans for a mobius and 808 shroud for rocketry (e.g. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:523338)
B. Internal rocket booster or av-bay camera mounting with lens partially external via a port. The best option is Liquid Frye Rocketry (https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?141490-LiquidFyre-Rocketry)-advantage-significantly less drag and more protection for the camera in the event of a lawn dart. Disadvantage-more expensive & I think current units are only for 3 and 4 inch diameter rockets.. By the way, LiquidFry sells the mobius and lens cable.

Good luck with your project and let us know how it progresses.

The regular 808 camera can be attached to "B" or "C" powered rockets. That's probably your best bet. Most folks will suggest buying them from "Bayou Rat" here >> https://www.bayouratrocketry.com/

If he is sold out of the $20 model - you can get the same or better on ebay for a few dollars more. https://www.ebay.com/itm/808-Keycha...547425&hash=item1c80a4db09:g:QIsAAOSwH4NZfd24

There are different styles of cameras - shaped like a pen, or shaped like gum, etc. the "808 keychain" style is the most popular and works fine on small low-power rockets.

My attached shot (below) is from a bigger and more expensive camera (RunCam2). It is true - you get what you pay for... still the 720p #808 is a good starting point
