Did you solder on the side of the board opposite the 3 pin connector?

Im thinking when I have Connor assemble my next one Ill have him solder in a couple leads on those battery holes. Then I can just solder the pigtail to those leads. No chance of ruining the board.
 
You can do it. You want solder to connect from the + to that side of the diode. on the top, it is closet to the RXD pad. Just have the wire come in from the top, and solder the bottom side with the diode.

Lol... That's very true. Practice tinning the wire long first. Trim your tinned end to 3/16. Then the solder joint will happen very fast with minimal solder. Watch a basic soldering video on youtube first. You can do it.....
