Sigh, another one gone. :(

44th anniversary of Apollo 17 was just last month.

NASA website link about Gene Cernan:

"We leave as we came, and, God willing, we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind." -- Cernan's closing words on leaving the moon at the end of Apollo 17

There is a book, and a documentary, "Last Man On The Moon". I keep intending to find and watch the documentary.

Last man to walk on the moon since 1972.Never know..might make it back.
I was 13 years old flying Centuri rockets.
I think I had EVERY news paper picture of the Apollo mission taped on the walls of me bed room.

Damn! Our living memories are turning to legends right before our failing eyes. It's impossible to relate to your kids the excitement and awe of the golden era of lunar landings. My Mother In Law saw the advent of cars and 'aerioplanes' as wonders in her childhood, I was blessed to know her and watched the last landing with her. She lived long enough to see me work on the Shuttle and was still amazed we were in space. He came to see our factory, but I was either in Florida or Vandenberg and missed it. I always thought of Gene as the 'young one', so smart and quick. Yes, it's sad he was the last, but maybe someday we can return to the dream amongst the fueding and political squabbles and budget cuts and wars we muck about with. Ad Astra, Mr. Cernan-thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and the inspirations and hopes to all the kids like me. The Universe is waiting.

I'll always remember Gene Cernan for his words at the end of this video clip....
Who could've known one day he'd even have to make a statement like this to defend himself from the nit wits.

The last man, .................with the last word on the subject.
God speed.
