Hello all. I am newbie here. I have some question here. For almost two years, I have learned a lot about rocketry and I gained some experience about how a rocket fly but not all things I know since I accidentally stumble about it, which is fascinating me. Since my place do not have any rocketry club covering about model rocket (unless covering a really, really basic things about water rocket, which is too basic for me), I do not know what should I do and where should I start about rocketry and what things should I know and learn about it. Can someone suggest me where should I start? For your information, I live in Sarawak, Borneo, where few people know about rocketry and how it really work.

There are many online resources that you can look at to gain a better understanding of model rocketry.

Apogee's Peak of Flight Newsletter and Videos
Chris Michielssen's (hcmbanjo) Model Rocket Building Blog
Estes Educator has a few useful items.
The Rocket Noob (Incornith)
And of course, the rocketry forum. (*Ding!* "You have arrived at your destination.")


That being said, welcome!
 
welcome powerbright. resources....hhhmmm... welp, theres a jillion resources for every factor or rocketry, but since youre brand new, id suggest what incongruent posted, plus "the handbook of model rocktetry." its available to download if ya cant get it in borneo.
then you may want to find places to get the rockets and supplies, which im guessing would have to be online for ya, but i could be wrong.

plus, this site has a LOT of imformation on it.
 
Welcome ! It really is a small world after all. This forum is a discussion of hobby model rocketry using commercially available rocket motors. Do you have such things in your neck of the woods ?

I think you should beg, borrow or steal a copy of the Handbook of Model Rocketry. It was written by one of the men who stated the hobby business in the U.S.A. in the 1950's. It will give you a good introduction to what most of us are into here.

I looked your location up on google earth
From what I see, you'd be best to stick with low power to start with.
Once you get the basics down, you can move up.
I would look into getting a Jolly Logic Chute Release.
There is a Sticky Thread under The Watering Hole that has a list of many of the vendors to order from, and information.
Do you have access to low power rockets and engines, or will you be shipping them in from over seas?
Check out your local laws about the black powder engine, and if they can be shipped in.

I am not sure any of us will be able to tell you what resources are available to you in Sarawak for hobby rocketry. Certainly the books others have recommended, especially The Handbook of Model Rocketry, are good places to start. But as to where to purchase motors and rocketry supplies, you may need to find a local resource.

I would suggest you contact the Kedah Rocketry Group. The website is here. They may be able to tell you where you can purchase rocket kits as well as rocket motors.

Thanks dude for your reply! The website that you provided is very useful for me! I'm gonna use it as my reference to build my first own model rocket. I'm 18 anyway. :)

Thank you so much! Glad to hear it :) Anyway, I have searched "The Handbook of Model Rocketry pdf download", but it seems doesn't give me the result. If possible, could you provide me the link for me? Thanks :)

UPDATE: I have finally found the book on the internet! It is really makes me happy that I got the book, which is hard-to-find. Thanks a lot for your help! :D

Thanks for your reply! To be honest, there's no commercially available rocket motor and rocket kit (probably). Here, we always being teach how to build water rocket, but the problem is that such activity would not suitable for me, especially people who are really keen in rocketry. Few people here know what is rocketry and how it is work. Also, I have found the book in download-able form, which is hard-to-find actually and I found it very useful. So, I have already bookmark it and I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. ;)

Thanks for your reply! It really help me to find resource and to start build and launch my own model rocket! Anyway, I don't have any access to low power rockets and engines here. I wanna to shipping them in from overseas, but the problem is I need to have license to buy it as the law are pretty strict and rocketry are still not recognize in this place. What should I do regarding this situation. Any advice would be appreciate. :)

You mentioned basic water rockets. While this isn't the place to find it, there are groups out there that do some pretty advanced stuff with water rocketry (e.g. https://wra2.org/). I'm here in China, and I'm beginning to think that water rockets are what I'm going to be forced to do if I want to remain in the hobby somewhat.

Hello K'Tesh. Happy Chinese New Year, may this rooster year will give us luck and prosperity. I hope you are in good health. To be honest, I have been involved in water rocketry last year in school and I made a bigger rocket compare to others, but unfortunately, the rocket failed at 30 PSI before it is ready to launch. Plus, water rocket are pretty complicated compare to model rocket, which is really hard and I gave up on water rocketry since it's too hard for me to understand how to build it. I used various water rocket resource including Air Command Water Rockets tutorial, but I didn't understand how to build it plus it is pretty costly and I have limited time and fund to continue build it and the most sadly thing is my friend, who are in my team, didn't help me to build it, and last year, his rocket flew perfectly in first try and the parachute deployed accordingly and I feel so sad that I failed to build it. Since then, I stop building any water rocket and start my new great year with model rocket. I know that in China, you guys just limited to water rocketry but I'm lucky that the rocketry club do exist, but not in Sarawak. In Malaysia, there's rocketry (astronautical) club named Astronautical Association of Malaysia (AAM). They are specialist in model rocket (advance rocketry) and they build it with paper in small size. They actually have came to Sarawak, but unfortunately, they only came to Kuching, so there's limited knowledge regarding model rocket. Anyway, how many water rocket do you build so far? I'm interested to learn from you and I hope I will return to water rocket, someday. Thanks again for your post. I'm glad to meet you. Happy Chinese New Year! :D

Hey Lowpuller, thanks for your reply. Yeah, I do agree that water rocket can be complex as well. And anyway, what do you mean with BP and JL CR? I'm not familiar with that rocketry abbreviation. Thanks again for your reply. :)

BP = Black Powder
JLCR = Jolly Logic Chute Release
