Many mentioned here were faves of mine but some that haven't been mentioned (I don't think) are:

Dig Dug
Twin Cobra
Reactor
Star Castle
Bosconian

The theme song of Galaga creates a Pavlovian excitement in me. Seriously, I can't hear it without a little adrenaline rush. My heart quickens, and my hands start reaching for the controls.

So I saw this thread (again) today. I hadn't contributed previously, however I just finished reading "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. It's science fiction, but very much revolves around the 1980's/90's gaming culture (and the 80's culture in general). For those who have a love of all things 80's or gaming, you may find it a fun read. I found it to be quite enjoyable. In addition, there is an audio book version read by Wil Wheaton available.

(tangent: If you enjoy this book for the gaming aspects, I'll further highly recommend an anime series called Sword Art Online)

Spacewar was fun. got interesting when a couple of SF geeks were playing...turning torpedoes into mines, putting both ships into orbit, or lobbing torp.s in hyperbolic trajectories around the star. played missile command when it came out, but pinball was my fav and it just doesn't have the right feel on a computer, after '82 I got out of the arcade stuff.

Heh, Yeah, that old Space Wars cabinet had a lot of variations you could choose from. Dropping mines was fun. Thrust, flip 180*, and hit fire. You could lay a row of them...

The star made for some fun events too. I especially liked that one ship looked like the Enterprise and one a Star Destroyer.

Asteroids, Lunar Lander, Defender/Stargate, Gyruss, and Galaga round out my favs.

Trivia: Asteroids took off so well, that many early units had Lunar Lander side art on the cabinets.
