1.No Fuel amendment or??
2.Aerodynamics -No_Only the engine must point to the center of gravity of the rocket.
3.Recovery system.
If the rocket is good enough it will become an artificial satellite of the moon.
So recovery system should include engine to put rocket down from orbit approximately where it is flown, Onboard camera will shoot at least an entire circumference of the moon:)
P.S. This of course is the first level. Recruits will shoot for a start of 15-20 km altitude:)
P.P.S. Mars? Many want to go there. Far cold, no air to breathe and also has canyons perfect place to lose your rocket. Moon, the Moon is heaven for amateur rocketry:)

There is no wind. Smoke trail will stay at least a few hours :)
 
Yes .. and it terribly fast the speed of the gas from the nozzle. Therefore if you let the engine in a hole in the moon nozzle upward track will be unimaginably high and you can judge it for engine performancе. :) Or you will not see any trace as lunar module ??

Without wind resistance, what would it take to get up to 5300 ft/s. a.k.a. Lunar Orbit!
 
You gotta get there first however..... and that's the real challenge.:wink:

Wouldn't it be easier to just go into orbit on the way there instead of landing and then taking off again to go into orbit?

So... you're saying hold the rocket out the window while in lunar orbit and let go? Besides, then it wouldn't be Amateur rocketry ON the Moon, it would be Amateur rocketry ABOVE the Moon and that's no fun. :marshmallow:
 
Recovery system must be very good. It should being perfectly calculated. The engine landing must be slightly smaller than the engine off. But ... they can shoot huge rockets with relatively small engines very high :)
Housing will be under the moon so that only the top and hang out in the desert :) Naturally away from solar panels.Moreover, because there is no air no one deals with balloons and airplanes. Only rockets:)
There will be no problems with stabilization. The rockets can fly very very slowly and beautifully.Оr incredibly fast.

Wouldn't you need much bigger fins given the lower air density?
And with 1/6 the gravity, CG wouldn't mean as much either. So you would have to calculate CP and CG much closer to make a rocket stable without some kind of guidance?
 
For most practical purposes, the Moon is considered to be surrounded by vacuum, so fins would be useless. Active or spin stabilization would be required.
The fact that temperatures on the moon are extreme, ranging from boiling hot to freezing cold depending on where the sun is shining would be a factor for hobby type propellents and construction materials.

Materials .. aluminum tube completely would work during the day - about 150 degrees C. But will not even need a tube, any structure is permissible as long as you know its center of gravity and there to direct the engine.The absence of air entails and another- there is no pressure. So it could easily construct a sugar rocket which there will be liquid and into the combustion chamber using compressed air.Even no need stove for cooking fuel. Allow potassium nitrate and sugar in the sun and stir occasionally. In lunar rocks is potassium, it is believed that oxygen and nitrogen and also there. The sugar will be slightly more difficult but if there be planted cane or beets under a glass dome will grow to 6 times larger :)Ground for greenhouses will not be a problem. She will be obtained from mixed lunar dust and **** from people :)Generally the moon has everything you need for life. Infinite energy from the sun and chemical materials of stones and rocks. Perhaps very soon after the settlement she will declare independence from Earth :) And there will be much more powerful space fleet. Because from there is much easier to launch a large rocket.Who mastered the moon will control space. I do not know why more delay.

As others have mentioned, amateur rocketry on the moon would be a bit complicated. Not only would you need some form of guidance to launch the rocket, but you would need rocket propulsion for recovery as well. Parachutes won't work on the Moon. It's certainly conceivable that an amateur rocket could achieve lunar orbit. I believe the orbital velocity near the moon surface is 1.6 km/s. A rocket that's accelerating at 10Gs (10 earth Gs that is) would need a burn time of 16 seconds to reach a speed of 1.6 km/s. That could be done with a long-burn motor, or a 2- or 3-stage rocket. The trick is to turn the rocket as it gets higher so it has a circular orbit. On the moon, the orbit only has to be just high enough to clear the tallest hill in its path.
 
Complicated? And on earth is it easy? When amateur rocket will be displayed on the Earth orbit? Never. Putting the amateur rocket on lunar orbit will be the highest level in amateur rocketry on the Moon:)
For example my rocket 500 n.s 3 kg there will fly to eight kilometers:)60 seconds will fly up. Imagine her all blue LEDs :)
Rеcovery System? There are rockets with two identical engine. The second will run to kill the speed fall at a certain height from the surface.Furthermore, there is a thick layer of soft ash.

But if your rocket doesn't use active guidance or spin it will most likely arc over and crash. Using an identical motor for recovery sounds like a good solution. It would have to be closely matched to the launch motor, and it would have to fire at a precise time to bring the velocity to zero just as it reaches the surface.
 
Naturally, there will be difficulties. But I like Kennedy, "not because they are easy, but because they are hard".
For the simple case of a rocket-shaped tube if the engine is oriented vertically precision rocket will not rotate. Furthermore, lunar force of gravity is 6 times less. even at the speed of the rocket landing is not exactly 0 it will not ruin.For example if a rocket falls from 100 meters or 330 feet it will fall a full 11 seconds. It will not be a problem to catch even a hand :)And because there everything weighs 6 times less you can catch quite large rockets:) They can be very light and safe after burn fuel.
In addition, a water rocket will be simple. Pour the water, the sun heats the water and it becomes steam. Start. Simple timer run second engine ( almost the same as in mind that the rocket has become lighter) for landing.
Furthermore amateur rocket using liquid fuel will be started during the nighт .Then at -150 degrees Celsius liquid oxygen will need to cool only 30 degrees.I guess there every 20-30 miles will have stations for liquid oxygen.It will be produced in place by decomposition of the stones.
P.S. On the moon will be cool. Full comfort in the underground city. Internet ,women..... And outside the city full of rockets and fly, fly :)
Not to mention that on the moon may be built huge spaceships. With lunar materials . There can make the purest crystals for computer chips. There even the hips of women are 6 times longer. :)
