    Aerotech motor usage

    Hi all,

I opened an Aerotech 38-240 reload kit in march, anticipating that i would use it during the launch. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the worse, and I never flew it. Since then, the motor has been sitting in its original bag, taped shut. My question is, Is there a time limit to how long a reload can be opened before use? I know i might have to sand the core a bit if the AP is oxidized. Is there any other precautions i should take before using the motor at an upcoming launch?

Put it in a Ziplock bag and push most of the air out and you'll be good for quite a while. I've been storing some G64s like this for over a year, and have seen several HPR motors stored like this (I usually fly my HPR stuff at the same launch as when I get it, so I haven't had to store any of those after opening).

Other than sanding the core of the forwardmost grain, you should be able to just build the motor as normal and fly it.

There shouldn't be a problem. I've had reload kits open for months at a time without any difficulty. Just keep it reasonably well sealed (I use ziplock bags), and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The only thing I've found that might turn questionable is the BP ejection charge. BP isn't supposed to be hydroscopic, but...

I've had a few that seemed exceptionally weak after being un-bagged for a while. They were stored in sealed ammo cans in a de-humidified basement so they may have had other issues, but just to give you something to worry about.....
