This thread is going to be dedicated to stuff lost and found in the potter field. This includes regular URRG launches, LDRS's, and URRF's.

I'll start off with stuff found after/during URRF3!

Yep! I remember you telling me about the chute release now... Send an email to the urrgbod gmail account and we'll figure out how to get it to you.

The "Squirrel" had a busy day, and recovered Deb Spencer's Mad Cow 3" FG Hawk 23B from 60' up in a tree. It was her L1 certification flight and the rocket needed to be recovered and inspected to get the Cert, so I stuck around to inspect the rocket and will send it back to her. And since I'm a L2, I signed her paperwork and she got her L1!

Just before that, the Squirrel recovered an upper stage with an orange parachute that looked like Deb's rocket from the ground. It had electronics and a 54? mm motor. I think that's Gerry's 4" second stage mentioned above.

I'm not sure how the Squirrel does it, especially the Dark Star (see the above picture). That's a big heavy rocket and it was draped over several branches way up in a tree in the middle of the tree island. Larry and I trekked it out of the woods to his truck, and that wasn't easy, but the Squirrel's work in the trees was far harder.....and dangerous.

After the team had a successful day recovering 8 rockets, we had a 4 pm lunch at Smugglers before leaving for home...

Bob

Oh man, I'm so glad that Deb S. got her rocket back and you signed off on her cert..
It was a perfect flight up to the tree landing, lol..
If I can help get any rockets down south I'll attend a launch
coming in the next months and pick up whatever you guy's want..

Im a very happy guy. I really did not think it would come down without sacrificing a parachute or a fin as It looked real nasty when I located it. Thank you Squirrel, although I am happy to have my rocket back it is not worth risking life or injury for. Glad you are alright and thank you Larry for taking care of it for me. I will be in touch to get it soon.

I could be wrong Glenn but something tells me by the smile on Squirrels face that he enjoyed risking life and limb, and if you asked him he may even do it again tomorrow. Now once he gets old and fat like us then he will likely just look back at the pictures, reminisce about the good old days when he was limber enough to hike up the trees, risking life and limb, and instead he will just fork out a couple hundred dollars for some other young guy to do it for him.

We were lucky to recover everything we launched at URRF 3 last weekend, but since this thread has been created to inventory lost rockets at "Potter's field" (sorry for the inadvertent pun...It's not really a rocket graveyard ;-), I thought I'd re-post the info on a rocket we lost ~ a year ago at Potter during LDRS34:

Our Sirius Eradicator (45" long / 3" diameter upper tube section / 30" diameter orange nylon chute)...Rocket is white with red, black, & blue decal accents, and unique grey ring fins integrated into standard white tail fins...Nosecone is grey with a black tip.

Sirius Eradicator_2.jpg

Location of this rocket is actually known. It landed in the stand of trees at the south end of the field, just past the road and over the creek, on the property of landowner "B" on the recovery map provided in the URRF3 info pack. Rocket landed ~50' up in the high branches of a tree...Too high to reach with pole saw and extensions. Details of rocket location (including a map) were posted in this thread:

https://www.rocketryforum.com/showt...at-time-at-LDRS34&highlight=sirius+eradicator

Sirius Eradicator Location in Potter NY.jpgSirius Eradicator stuck in tree.jpg

Unfortunately, our thread ran dry after a few replies last July.

We did not get a chance to revisit the tree stand last weekend to see if the rocket was still there, or if it had dropped lower, but as far as we know it's probably still there...If anyone ventures into that stand of trees have a look. Would still like to get what's left of the rocket back at some point.

(So who's this "Squirrel" people mentioned in some of the earlier threads? Sounds like an interesting character!)

If anyone comes across our Sirius Eradicator, and can snag it, let us know. Thanks!

Well I'm happy to inform all of a reunion that will bring hope to anyone who may have lost a rocket at the Potter fiend. During the setup of URRF 3 one of the farm hands told us that someone had brought back a huge rocket motor to Rick the farm manager. Well I was able to get said motor from Rick on Friday morning. All there was left was the motor case and a pitiful bit of motor mount tube and related junk. Once we got the crap off the tube we found Donald Ball's name etched into it. Well as Don is one of my facebook friends I sent him a PM on Monday asking him if he was missing something big, blue and silver with his name on it?
IMG_20160627_185641_427.jpgIMG_20160627_185759_272.jpg

Well not only did he remember it, but he knew exactly when he lost it. You see it was his 75-5120 Aerotech compatible case that he lost in his Thor booster when he flew it in the L900 Dark Matter Drag race at LDRS 31, yep, that was four years ago. Well Don sent me the postage to send it back to him and when I sent it I emailed him the Tracking Number.

As of now Don has his case back and he is currently working on it to unseized the closures on the case and get the eye bolt out of it, and as he says only time will tell if it will be usable in the future. I wish him lots of luck with that.

So the reason I tell all of you this story is to give everyone hope to know that if you do lose a rocket at the Potter field that when and if it's found no matter what the condition of what's left of it, that you will get what is yours back!

Just found this thread. Bob K this is great news. Thought my hawk was lost. Many thanks to you and Squirrel. I'll be up for the launch next weekend. Hope to see you then.
Deb Spencer

Hurrah! Hawk is home! Thanks Bob and Squirrel!

That's really wonderful news Deb..
I think I read above that Bob K signed off on your cert..
I witnessed the flight and it went perfectly ( except for the pesky trees in the way on the way down )..
Good for you Deb..
