Fin Slotting Phenolic Tubes

Recently, I bought several rocket components from a local rocket shop and I have begun to build a rocket....or something.

I decided to use "through the wall fin mounting," which I figured would be easy enough. How I was wrong!!! I have tried cutting the slots out with a xacto knife, a gyproc knife, AND even a dremel tool, which ended up slightly burning my tube:y:

So...how do you guys do it, and what am I doing wrong??

Dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel.

It took some digging around before I found a good, strong, cutoff wheel, but it worked like magic.
