Country Music Star Merle Haggard passed away on his 79th birthday... Seems like the world is loosing a lot of musicians this year.

May his journeys, from here on, be free and clear.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.
Then this is how greatness does it:

"Or would that be 'Grateness'?"

Have tickets for a Willie show that he was to be at next month. I thought it would be awesome to see them together:(

What is sad is all the drive by media outlets are obsessing over the death of Prince. What did he do?? When Merle passed away I only heard/saw a few things about the passing of Merle. I just think it is a double standard.

Different folks have different tastes. If I'm driving down the road in my pick up and the radio station puts on Merle, I turn it up.

If they put on Prince, I wonder who's been messin' with my radio.

What did he do? Did someone drop you on your head or something?

No one dropped me on my head. At a young age I chose to start listing to music. I chose Country. Country just does something to me. Ever since I was young I told myself I would listen to nothing but country. That other type of music is gang banger, head banger music. Music I dont want to associate with. I dont even listen to the new "modern" country its more pop then anything else. The singers I listen to are Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks, George Straight, Willy Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, George Jones, kris kristofferson, Randy Travis, Hank Williams SR and JR. I love the country that is more talking. Good quality country music tells a story more than anything.

Andrew

So if it's not country it's gang or headbanger music?? You have issues.

Prince is one reason my parents still get freaky at their old age. Merle haggard was a great musician also.
Judging people based on their music choice is... Sorta juvenile...

TMI! LOL I am not judging people on their music choice. All I am saying is my opinion. People pick what they want to listen to. All I am saying Country music is Number 1 and all other music is 2.

I'm reminded of the interview I read were Haggard said he wasn't the Okie from Muskogee, his dad was. Born and raised in Cali after his family left the Dust Bowl Tom Joad/Grapes of Wrath style. Scared straight while a guest of the state at San Quentin State Prison. Fascinating stuff. I have heard some recordings of Princes after-party jams which I liked a lot; look for his solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the www. By all accounts he could play several instruments as good or better than anyone you can name. RIP to both, neither sucked.
