So, most of you are aware of "The King of Random" on youtube. While some of his stuff is questionable, some of his projects are quite neat. I stumbled across this project:

To summarize, you cut the necks off of two bottles, and epoxy them together. I used JB weld, since I had it on hand and it is really easy to mix very small amounts of. I wanted it specifically for my hunting pack for matches.

Loaded up with 40 military grade matches and two book covers with strikers, it weighs a tick over 17 grams and still floats when sealed.

I had my Webelos make them out of schedule 40 PVC with a screw cap on one end and cut to fit wooden match sticks. We filled them with some strike anywhere matches that were dipped in paraffin wax. It is a bit heavier and bulkier that the soda bottle version though.

I have used this method for packaging a few first aid items as well. Since you are building with PVC, you just a piece of pipe that fits what you want to protect. Heck, that is what my launch rods live in.

Yeah, my launch rods live in a PVC setup like you described. The appeal of the bottle caps is that it is just repurposed garbage, and the redneck in me loves that.

Hey Tony,,,
That's a great idea...
I like that one...
Great safety item to have
and because it's so inexpensive you can have many of them...

They do, but I had one leak once. These at least have seals.

I love hacks. 5 years ago I saved a few toothpaste caps so I could make a connector to refill my travel toothpaste tube and it works like a charm. The only thing I had to work with was some 30 min epoxy and I glued both of the smaller ends together and let dry for a good 3-4 days. Drilled a hole in the center and whalah! It's a good idea to clean out the travel tube after using it up, but it is reusable after all. I just make sure the travel tube is empty and lacking any air, then squeeze some in from my large home tube. No need to re-up on a new travel tube plus, those are pricey considering how little you get for your money.

Having no photo to show you, I was going to photoshop a couple together when I stumbled across a page where someone else has a method using sugru. Never heard of that before, but the epoxy was already here and I turned my trash into a usable tool.
