Amazing for the price. Apparently so new to most that there aren't any decent English language reviews of it yet:

Yep, Chinese rip-off of the GoPro for about 1/10 the price.
There have been many of them, but this one is, amazingly, about half the price of previous ones that don't even come with all of those accessories, seems to have decent video which is understandable considering the sensor and camera processor chip they claim to use, and even has a color LCD display which most of the competition don't have at twice the price.

Don't be dissing those hard working Chinese rip off engineers. Embrace the free and open market.

Hard to beat at that price, but it is only 30 fps 1080P and GoPros are eggregiously over priced at every fps level imho. A better comparison might be the Mobius HD at ~$60 which is also 30 fps and about half the size. Can't wait to would see a Chinese 60 fps 1080P unit hit the market.

Where are you getting a $60 Mobius? I looked recently and apparently they are starting to have cheap clones too.

I do love them, though, and agree that Go Pro cameras are overpriced.

I have one of these. The GeekPro one. 140 degree lens with wi-fi. They are OK. They don't do well in low light (no prob for rockets) BUT motion tends to blur the image MUCH worse than on a real Go Pro. It'll do 720p at 60 fps, 1080 at 30 fps. Battery goes about 3 hours.

Well, there you go.

I bought a GoPro Silver a couple years ago with the 25% coupon for REI members. At the time, that was the "economy" model. I now see that GoPro has introduced entry level cameras to compete with their clones.

The GoPro is an amazing little machine.

I cannot find a link to buy that Soocoo F23 for $39
Do you have any?

I have ordered from Gearbest multiple times. As the US warehouse doesn't have these, don't expect fast shipping. Even if you pay for the 3-7 day shipping, that is not the time you will get it. They send it out to a US warehouse who then puts a new address label on it. The 3-7 days is typically the time from that warehouse. It takes about 3 weeks on average to get something from them or from Banggood. But, I haven't really had any problems with any of my orders from them, it just takes a while.

With that being said, I purchased that camera before the additional price drop... ugh

Same here, no problems with Gearbest or Banggood although in the R/C forums you'll always find people who trash one or the other of those vendors because they were unlucky enough to have consecutive problems with one of them.

The Chinese new year holidays start on Feb 8 this year and slows things down with vendors for about three weeks, so order Chinese stuff that will be shipped before then.

They already have. This is one of them:

XiaoMi Yi 1080P Ambarella A7LS

https://www.gearbest.com/action-cameras/pp_153557.html

https://www.youtube.com/results?q=Xiaomi+Yi:+sample+1080p+60fps

I posted some stuff here about it a while back. The camera had sensor module focus QC problems, although I don't know what percentage of them experienced that and it could be corrected fairly easily by the user after opening the case.

Ah, heck, I just went ahead and bought one plus a head mount. I have always found that with a handheld camera, I can either video my launch or watch/track it, but not both. But with the head mount, as long as I am looking at the rocket, I am recording the flight. For $41, it's worth the wait (and the risk).

Forgot about that one. It has a different form factor than Mobius so it would need a different 3D printed housing, but it would be worth the effort to get onboard 60 fps which is noticeably smoother.

Could not resist getting the Soocoo F23 for $33.73 with free shipping. I will initially use it on a tripod for launch videos.

Got one myself too for my hexacopter that I will be using for filming rocket launch

I picked up two of these at $33.76 a piece, free shipping, and a $2.70 insurance option that guarantees replacement unit shipped for free should original not arrive for whatever reason. Shipping was about 10 days from China to Tampa. Quality-wise I am quite impressed!

Addendum: I did not have anti-shake turned on when filming the below vid. I have turned anti-shake on and adjusted a few other settings and will upload a follow-up vid for comparison.

Mine arrived a few days ago, so the entire shipping process took about three weeks. Not bad at all.

I still need to get a MicroSD card....

Mine has arrived and I am quite impressed by all the accessories

I don't even know what to do with all the accessories! I bought a head-mount so that I can video launches while I look at them.

It was a good find. Thanks, OP! SJ4000 here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MIT658W/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

was its predecessor with wifi and a higher price tag but otherwise updated F23 is the same.

I should be able to fit two of them in my AV bay just fine. 3.7v powered by my 1500mah 3s lipo will do the trick.

Nice ebay. I'm waiting for a replacement for this puppy to come: https://www.tinydeal.com/108-hd-screen-win-10-dual-os-z3735f-2gb-64gb-3g-tablet-pc-p-156019.html

Dual boot Android/Windows with an internal GPS to boot. The first one I received had a defective camera. If the second one is junk that'll scratch this endeavor. I believe a cut down AT&T phone SIM will work with the Android phone side and GPS Rocket Locator will work. My APRS programs will boot on the Windows side so I can have an all-in-one Android/Windows10/cellphone in one device.
I was able to test out GPS Rocket Locator and several APRS tracking programs before I reset it, boxed it up and sent it back. It appears one can have one MicroSD card for storage to insert when using Android and a different MicroSD card formatted for Windows.
There is also this device: https://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_145762.html that is comparable but the top one above was pretty nice when I played with it.

If this turns out to be a bust I've lost the bet but if it's a winner, I like the idea of a compact dual bootable device for field use. Oh geez, Altus Droid is another app that could go on these devices for use.

This was the first time I got something I've had to send back to China. That's an obstacle for some people but I believe that dual boot devices are not encouraged by American makers and software purveyors.
Yeah, I'm gambl'in but if it works the payout is pretty good.

Forgot to add I ordered one of the cameras too. Looking forward to using it based on reports here.

ok mr ADD!

lol yeah I was like, nice segue... I guess???? haha

Good unit (f23 soocoo) so far since using it the last couple of days. Image stabilization is not gopro level but it's freakin 34 bucks shipped! I pulled both of mine out of the housings and am wiring them up and laying them out on the balsa prop sled to get dimensions. Then I'll write up an stl file and send my sheet of carbon fiber to my machine guy so he can water jet cut the sled for all the electronics. Can't wait to have live-streaming video with this build!

Ahhhhh yeah,

Anal Duty Derelict? (Another name for colonoscopist I guess?) Live streaming? You going to pipe the video to a transmitter for in flight monitoring? I'd be interested in the plan for snow free transmission of the live video stream.

I've seen some of the early analog streamed video and I recall some picture quality problems when the rocket spun. I heard something about Rf polarity issues.
Shoot, with the GPS tracker, I'd just download the video and view it after the flight. Might not be worth all the work to stream live unless you don't expect to get the rocket back.:surprised:

I wonder with all the live video stuff that's being done with drones these days if a clean live stream from a rocket is more easily doable now. Kurt
