If they're out of stock, email them and ask how many he needs to make a batch, then order enough to make it worth his while. Surely there is enough interest in just this thread to do a group thing. When I sent a BSG Viper to be cloned in order to build 10 of them, that was a batch right there and additional cones were produced for stock so others could get one too. Same deal here. David already has the mold and for many other kits.

Verna, do you know of a source for the nose cone it was/is a special one for the SR-71?

Hi Rich,

I'll have to check on the 71 nc, I know I have seen a source in the past. I can't speak for David at Sirius but I'm pretty sure he would do a batch if there is enough demand. He took over Moldin Oldies from Mike Schmidt several years ago and can make anything he can get an original for to make the mold. I'll email him later today and ask if he needs one. In the past I have sent original parts and decal sets to people for reproduction. I have no problem breaking open a mint kit and doing that if David needs one. I don't buy to up sell later, I buy to fly.

Maybe all the guys following this thread can talk about getting a cloned 71 cone or 2 from Sirius in the near future or working up an actual pre order. They are made in small batches 8-12 (I think) doesn't take many to make a batch. When I did the BSG Viper cone with Mike a batch was 10 so I got them all and sold a couple to other club members over time. Later I got more from David.

Let me email Dave and see what he thinks. I'll get back when I hear from him.

The SR 71s arrived today in great shape. I was surprised when I saw your return address. I grew up just down the road from you off of Mile Lane. Small world.

Just did the triple check.
All 9 people who paid me had their packages go out priority mail Saturday.
Ericclindist still has to pay but he's on his honeymoon.
I still have a delivery for the first METRA.
So far one for Noffie 79.

think that about covers it for everyone.

I received my SR-71s last night. They look great--just like I remember the kit from the 90's. Thanks so much!
 
I just came across some of these kits on Amazon for $13 each. I guess the guy didn't know what he had. I bought all 6 of them. I guess you have to look around. I have bettet luck on Amazvon than Ebay. Not a big fan of them but might sell them later. It was close to $100 after shipping.

Just be careful whenever pulling the trigger on crazy deals like that...sometimes they don't list the item shown...other times they are quite beaten up. I've had situations like that before. Even had one seller cancel my order saying the price was incorrect (it was 10% of what it was supposed to be). If you did get the item at that price, boy...that's a GREAT find! :)

Pays to go on hunts sometimes; however for me it can end up being hours of searching and I start to wonder if I'm nuts. ;) I did find two BLU-97B Cluster Bombs on Amazon for $15 each last year; however the packaging was quite yellowed like it was left by a sunny window for years. Kit was still good though.

So who's gonna do a build thread? Also I vote that Afterburners does a cluster with motors in the jet pods since he's got a few extra to spare. :wink:
