I did an RC mach 10 style rcrg back in 2009, on that one I used a cardboard tube and a cruciform foam sheet structure inside the tube and the wings in the centerline. It flew well. I know Rokitflite did one at the same scale and a slightly smaller bt-80 version. On mine I didn't want to eject anything and I kept the horizontal stab level since I can trim for glide with the elevons.

I decided to make another one tonight. I used contact cement and rolled 2mm sheet around a 4" tube double thick, then made the wing, glued it to the bottom this time.

The tube is 4.5" by 20.75" and weighs 1 3/4 oz, the entire model with electronics and an E-6 motor is right at 11 ounces.

I did put a 1" keel on the bottom to help support the tube on landing and give me somewhere to mount the rail buttons and to also protect the servos/receiver on landing.

4.5" diameter, 31" wingspan, 24" long, 11-12oz rtf.

Now it is a kit from dynasoarrocketry.com Comes with a bt-101 tube for the body and depron wing/tail surfaces. Here are a bunch of different schemes I and customers have used..

Thanks Rich. Made a photo paper canopy and put some monokote windows and then used some red vinyl for some accents.

Very nice! I loved my old Centuri Mach-10 back in the day...a classic design, and I love your Soviet style markings.

So I went home and got some more 2mm depron. I wrapped my 4" pml tubing in parchment paper(for cooking) and taped it in place to the tube ends. I then sprayed the foam with contact cement in the appropriate areas(ie not where it contacts the parchment, and not where the outside will be exposed) and used some packing tape to hold the end down onto the parchement, then wrapped it. Worked great, pulled right off the tube and I pulled the parchment paper out from inside. Trimmed the ends. Worked fine, but took about 30 minutes per tube.

While I was at the hobby shop getting the foam to try making some tubes, I found they had some decals for the old F-27 stryker for $1.00...I figured they might work, and so I did some trimming and I think they worked out pretty well, the wing details actually fit pretty well, here she is.

I got 8 flights today, dead straight on the test flights with the equipment on the bottom, then I moved the receiver/battery and wiring inside the tube for the subsequent flights. It tended to pitch toward the spine with the equipment on the inside versus on the bottom, i assume due to drag differences, so I had to set about 1/8" of down trim on boost, but glide was very good for this style model and I have just enough pitch control left after burnout to flare a tiny bit.

I finished the first model built from the kit templates and it came together nicely. Took about 1.5 hours plus another half an hour to cut and apply trim. I did this in soviet style markings. It balanced just as the prototype with the same amount of weight. 11 oz rtf with E-6 installed. We had another break in the wind/rain for about an hour just now so I got in two test flights, even with 9mph winds, it boosted nice and straight and glide trim was perfect. I had longer servo arms on the spare servos I had which gave me another 1/8" of up elevator which allowed me to flare nicely into the wind. Really a nice flying plane. This tube was my second one and did not come out as symmetric as the rest so I used it for the test. It made no difference to the way it flew.

I set this one up as a pusher with electric motor in the pod, didn't need any nose weight, used an 800mah 3s battery, ready to fly is 12 7/8 ounces..I did it in a slightly different soviet style scheme I saw on a mig 15...I got a chance inbetween rain in 35 degree weather to do two flights. Just perfect, starting with my flight CG 3/16" ahead of my boost CG setting no up trim needed at all, two clicks of roll trim to counter the prop torque. Very nice roll rate, nice tight loops, was getting at least 4-5 minutes of flight time. I'm pretty happy with all three.

I had a spare rolled depron tube and so I built one in a pseudo Huckebein TA-183-ish sort of style, flew it as a pusher yesterday, flies great and mark's vinyl from stickershock23 is great.
