Are these nice motor casings? As far as quality and reputation? I received these as a gift a couple years back for a Public Missiles Phobos i was building. A 38/240, 38/360 and a 38/480.
They have never been flow as i dont have my Cert 1 but plan on getting it with these casings.
So what is the lowest motor rating i could achieve using these casings and also what is the highest? Im assuming with the 38/480 i could build a I motor out of it? What would what the 38/240 produce fully loaded?

Still have not had anyone weigh in on the two sets of 29mm motor casings I posted a while back.

Original and modified versions of the LOC clone hardware, or?

Did the original versions of the AT 29mm HP hardware have the same thin metal labels as the 38 and 54 hardware?

A few Rocketflite motors from the late 80's:

I should have started by saying this is a GREAT thread. I have a few motors in my collection, but mostly low and mid power - no high power.
Thanks to all for sharing the photo's and history!

Love seeing the old high power motors. Thanks to all for sharing the photo's and history.

A few more: Vulcan E's and F's. I really miss the E55's and E60's.

Yeah, I second Bob!

Do the Rocketflite motors have the inner aluminum casing? Guessing no, it's my understanding that design change wasn't until later IIRC.

Thanks so much for sharing. I so wish I was able to play with these motors, Vulcans and Rocketflites. I'd love to see some old "in action" shots if y'all have any.

Hi Marcus,

Yes, these all have the aluminum liner. Not sure when the change was made.
These are some of my all time favorites. That being said, one of the best cato's I ever saw
Was a cluster of 4 Rocketflite motors at a CMASS launch I the early/mid 90's...

Thanks for the response! I guess they didn't switch to the aluminum case as late as I thought, seeing that those have the old F50 designation, before the F104.

I'm sure that CATO was nothing short of epic!

Going back a bit further: From 1967, these are the Estes B3-6, the English equivalent of the Metric B14's. These had a pretty good kick to them:

Ok, guys..... We need more motor porn. I am missing my fix.

Here is a meager bit from me.

Refresh my memory on the LOC 29mm RMS clones. Did they change the case color to natural silver metal after AT complained?

I remember picking up a second set of new non-AT 29mm 180-240 hardware from someone in Dallas circa 1993 or 1994. Unmarked natural metal color cases and AT colors on the closures. LOC?

Here is a picture of the clones next to my original AT 29mm hardware.

I'm going with LOC clones on this one. Every old Aerotech hardware set I've seen had a small gold aluminum plate glued to it indicating what it was. I seem to recall the ISP hardware was the same way. You could remove the plate but I would imagine some visual evidence of its prior existence would be pretty noticeable.

Thanks, pyrobob.

The more I think about it, the more I am pretty certain that it is two sets of LOC clones, one in black and one in natural metal. The black anodizing is a little denser and shinier and does not really match the black anodizing on my 38mm and 54mm stuff I bought about then, at all.

I have slept since I bought them, but it was from someone selling hardware at DARS launches or meetings in the early 1990s.

Pretty sure that was 'Dallas High Power', a father and son team if I recall. It was then sold to Jim Turner in 1996 or so (+- 3 years :)).

Yes, Jim Tuner of Trailing Edge Technologies. He was one of the coolest guys I ever had the pleasure of knowing. As most are aware he sadly passed away several years ago and is sorely missed. I do have one of his igniters left and indeed he made some great products.

I know for collectors, the buy / sell / trade market is rough given the inability to ship these. I always thought it would be fun to bring some of these to regional launches for display / trade / etc. I play to attend Spring RG and URRF. Anyone else ever think about doing this? If so, it might merit its own thread to discuss.

It was a nice Spank Motor! made a really cool sound with minimum diameter rockets..(dopler)..We (I?) used to love sniffing the Iron smell on Vulcan Motors..and sniffed every reload grain I ever had for that matter..LOL! I always thought the 24mm G200 was a Suicide Estes Motor..Shred-O-Matic..

I would LOVE to try that on a Estes Alpha LOL :D :dark:

All the G200's I've seen were 29mm. (Flew one last November.) There was the 24 mm G210 though :)
