So I was checking up on the Estes Little Joe II a moment ago. Reading the details I noticed something about the "Recommended Engines":

Recommended Engines: E12-4 Composite motor ONLY.

I thought the E12 was just another BP motor. Can anyone shed light on this?

My guess is that it is a typo.

E12s are black powder. One of our club members uses a few at every launch. He got some of the bad ones from Estes and they almost always 'pop' when the rocket is about 20 feet off the ground.

My Honest John #7240 instructions recommend a D12-15. Which I agree, will result in a highly scale flight profile. I prefer to go the fun scale route with a D12-5 and have the rocket actually survive the flight.
