Tutorial: Uploading images to TRF w/Flickr

OK, Flickr changes it's uploader every so often... And since ADMIN has PERMANENTLY disabled the image loader, it's time I updated the Flickr tutorial to the latest method.

Here's the image I want to share with you:

After creating my Flickr account, I need to upload the image... so I click on the upload to the cloud icon on the top right of the flickr page:

After that I see this page:

Since installing Windows 10, the drag and drop feature doesn't seem to work with their new POS web browser (Microsoft Edge), so I use (Chrome) the "Choose Photos and Videos" button. A folder opens up, and I can browse for my desired image:

I select my image (or multiple images), and click the "OPEN" button. This is what opens:

From this window, I can edit the name of the file, add a caption, select an "album" (or group) to add it to, add tags, change privacy settings or copyright it. That said, I'm ready to upload it. I click upload, and a small window opens to give me another chance to change my mind:

Once I confirm I'm ready to upload, I'll be taken to my new photostream:

I click the image, and this opens ([NOTE] I added the red box around the arrow):

If you want to share the image with the forums, click the arrow icon I boxed in red, this box opens up. Make sure that if you're sharing it here (or TRC/YORF) you have the BBCode selected (top right of the box). Select the size of image you want to share with us:

Right click on the code's text, and copy it:

    Continued from part 1

When you save your post, the image will look like this:

    And that's how it's done.

    Now... Let's see your images.

Look at the steps you've listed above, and compare them to what we had to do before - which was basically just click upload. I don't know what the problem was, or how this solves it, but you're going to see a lot fewer pics with this.

Flicker tried to upload my entire picture library... hell no.

There was apparently a security problem with the old uploader.

Good to know. Now I won't have to download the downsized image from Flickr only to upload to TRF.

Got this PM from someone who's PM box is full. I won't name names.

Someone pointed this out to me on my flickr photo that I posted. You can click on your photo and it will take you to your flickr photo stream. I took my photos down.

I thought you should know. Yours does the same.

I'm happy to have people go to my photo stream. Often the images I upload to share with people are too big to fit (reasonably) in the forum windows, and I'm happy to allow people to look at them at any size they want. If they go to my photostream, they may find something else that catches their eye, and ask questions, or give me answers to things that interest both of us.

I guess 27 messages is a full mailbox here. I thinned it down to 7.

I think that it is important to know that if someone uses Flickr that if you click on the photo in the forum it takes you to the photo on Flickr. (linked photo) From there, the viewer can browse your photos.

If you want to use that service and maintain some privacy I would set up an account specifically for rocket photo uploads.

    1) you probably didn't look at your "sent messages" folder which likely makes up the balance.

    2) you can always delete the link part of the image's code... See below

    Here's the code from flickr:

You save the post with that code alone, and you'll see this image:

And as you can see, that image has no link to flickr.

If you want, you can always change the link portion of the code, so people will see something different when they follow it:

Thanks for clearing that up. That worked. Now I can post without showing off all my photos.

I did delete my sent messages as well. I also found out that I have a limit of 75 messages total.

You wouldn't want me to help you with your Calc. Due to various reasons, it took me several (4) tries before I finally passed it. Chinese 101 though, I managed to get through it after only 3. Note, don't get hit by cars while bicycling. It's a bitch trying to pass college level math (or Sino-Tibetan languages for that matter) while going through physical therapy. Trust me I know from experiences.

According to posts I've read Flickr don't want people using their service to only embed photos that it should always have a link back.
