I thought I'd post a link to a video of building an eggtimer quark with a cheap eBay hot air soldering station I picked up for $38 dollars a couple months ago. The hot air method saves a lot of pain for me soldering surface mount components. A couple notes: It took an hour to finish soldering it together (I cut a lot of dead time out of the video). I use an old microscope for soldering SMDs. My eyes aren't young enough for going without magnification anymore Sorry the resolution isn't very good. Hopefully you'll be able to get the idea of how easy this method has been for me.
