There is skill, there is talent, there is freaking ART, and then there is this.

That person who completed that weld... is a welding demigod sent from the height of welding heaven.
 
A lot of the quality and kinds of beads thrown are due in large part to the type of equipment (and knowing how to use it!). Experience pays off, too; knowing how to set up your gear for the materials is critical. Even if this was done on mild steel (one of the easiest things to weld), you could never get something that looked this good with gas.

Amazing pattern to that weld. A friend of mine has a very elaborate machine shop -- mostly does CNC machining. He does do welding from time to time. His description of his talents is pretty good:

"I'm not much of a welder, but I am an amazing grinder."
