I currently have an AT 38/360 case (which has yet to see action :() and I since I was thinking about the future a question popped up: What AT RMS cases do folks tend to use most?

If you have pics of the case or the rocket in flight that's fine, too!

My favorites are:
38/360 - lots of choices, small I's are exciting without getting crazy, affordable
38/720 - J350W, it's a classic
38/1080 - love the J570W
54/1706 - lots of choices, K1100T is my favorite :) Hits hard with a sweet flame
54/2560 - Big K's get the blood flowing! Also, some cool motors like the K375NW

These are the cases that I use the most. But it really depends on what rockets you have and what kind of flight profiles you like.

Yeah, the 38/360 and 480's seem to be the sweet spot. For 54's, the 1280 and 1706 as well as the 852 and 2560. Well, I guess that pretty much means all of them :).

I have wondered if I could get a bulk discount on J570W (38-1080) if that answers your question. I have not yet flown the same HP motor twice, but probably every rocket that can use the J570W will get that motor at some point. The 38-360 is probably the most versatile in my opinion though.

Why I love the J570W...if you hit pause at just the right time you can see a 4' rocket riding a 6' flame. The entire bottom including fins edges and just behind the rail button had soot on it.

38/720 and 54/1706. Both have the widest variety of propellant types available. If you like the K1100, you'll love the K1103X - 300 free N-s :) The 38/360 is a close second in 38mm.

I love the Aerotech 54mm/2800 case. I love the K1050W and I am gonna try the L1090W at Airfest. Even though there is only 2 motors for that case its worth it!! I am a Trekkie and the K1050 was designed for the rocket in Star Trek: Generations that Soran used to blow the star up in that movie. So by default I love the K1050 and more so!!

I almost exclusively use the 38 1080 and 1320 cases, there is not a lot that won't fly well on the J-570/J510 motors up to about 25 pounds or so...at least for me, I don't care how high things go, I just like to see the entire flight...The long cases help with CG as well, moving propellent forward as opposed to short 54 cases...

I have a love/hate relationship with my Dr. Rocket 38/480 case. I love the I211W and I1299N loads, but some times the liners don't fit the case and I have to sand them down a lot to get them to fit. I believe the Dr Rocket case is at the low side of the tolerance because when I get a tight liner I will borrow a friend AT 38/480 case and the same liner slips right in that case.

I remember seeing that rocket in Hearne last month!

I'm admittedly new to 38s, just a handful of flights under my belt, but I REALLY loved flying the J570W and J825R in the 1080 case. The J570 put my Madcow Frenzy to 9,006 ft at LDRS. They seem to have a heck of a bang for the buck, really a lot of fun.

One of our club members has the same issue. Pretty sure it was a Dr. Rocket 600 case where the liner just wouldn't go in. I picked up the same case from the club's stash and it slid right in. Pretty sure that was a Dr. Rocket case as well.

That is where this flight took place as you probably gathered from the video. It landed on the runway which did some cosmetic damage, but otherwise the flight was great, the people were awesome and the field was perfect. I am sure I will be back from time to time.

The workhorse motors that I fly: 38/360, 38/720, 54/1706. Fav reloads in each size: H170M, J500G, K1103X.

Flown each of these MANY times. Some other sizes, maybe once or twice.

The 38/360 and the I245 g is a great load.

38/480 and the I300T is a great teleporter for small rockets.

The 38/600 and the I284w and I366 are great loads.

38/720 and either the j350 or J420 are excellent.

38/1080 j570 just kicks butt- plain and simple.

In general, I really like the 54/1280. The J800 in particular.

54/1706 is the K805g. Then again, I really am a fan of the Mojave Green propellant- I liked it for the impulse and thrustcurve before ever having flown one. The really nice bright green is just a bonus for me.

The 3 motors that I picked were the RMS 38/720 (6 grain), RMS 54/852 (2 grain), and RMS 54/1706 (4 grain). I've always wanted to fly a K550, as it seems such an impressive motor.

It's good to hear so many comments that say that the RMS 38/360 is so versatile.

Greg

I like the 38/360 for the variety, but I'm surprised that no one mentioned the 38/480 case with the I-59 reload. This is a GREAT motor on a lightweight, minimum diameter rocket. Not very fast, but lots of altitude. :)

I love the 38/360, and oddly enough, I also get alot of use out of my 38/120...some nice G loads for that case!
