I'm constantly amazed by the talents I see here on TRF and I'm sure there's a lot of other talents not being shown. My eyes are crying for more, so I'm starting a thread to showcase/showoff your other hobbies. Custom cars? Doodles? Crochet? Macaroni necklaces? Whatever it is, here's a good spot to show off for everyone's pleasure! :)

One of my former passions (currently taking a back seat to rocketry)...custom R/C car building...

A Customized Chevy engine model I made for a "50th Anniversary Clodbuster" build called "Gold Digger". This Youtube video has 1.3M hits (seems you get a million hits just by adding beer to a video):

Here's the "Gold Digger" which had the above model engine installed - A working Monster Puller with a lot of custom parts including a etched gold colored plaque and has a full metal gear train...model engine was also made to shake as it speeds up and synced with the speed control. Won RCCA (RC Car Action) Ride of the Month and was 2nd or 3rd place for 2007 Ride of the year (Rock crawlers were big that year).

Another RC vehicle I designed and created...Full Metal Maxx/"Gorilla Warfare"...my own designed tank tracks and ended up about 95% metal (including the body, tracks and sprockets) and has a titanium tranny and brushless motor. Seems a major RC car parts company may have copied the track design a few years later since their product looks similar. My vehicle made it to 2008 RCCA Ride of the Month, but don't recall if it was a finalist for the year.

I really enjoyed the end results and most of the build; however custom projects like these become all-consuming and I found myself thinking almost 24/7 about a bumper or how to make something work for over a year. Not for those who are not strong-willed.

Come on people, let's see whatcha got! :)

BTW - I also started this thread since I misunderstood the topic of another "show off your hobby" thread and already wrote about my other hobby, so why waste all that time I spent on a nice post?

In another life, I've been a luthier/instrument builder (currently on hiatus). This is some of my work:

I'm a cyclist (road/mountain/touring), and sometimes I build/ride something just for fun - like these:

I'm a photographer. This is some of my work:

I'm a bass player. Some photos:

Bicycles are my (other) thing. I ride a lot, on road and MTB, and I like to muck about with custom cruisers. My touring bike, which is primarily my commuter:

No need to stop riding just because it snows:

My wife would say I am an Amateur Astronomer or Avid Stargazer, but I preferred to call myself is Astronomical Voyeur.

My other model hobby is radio control aircraft. While I fly a lot of prebuilt ARFs, I do design and build some models from scratch if they are unusual and capture my attention.

Here is a photo of my original design scale twin electric ducted fan model of the Russian Beriev Be-200 turbofan amphibian, in flight.

I should add that I am a person who just loves working with my hands...it doesn't matter what media, so I really appreciate the works shown here.

I actually share a lot of these same interests and currently do or have in the past (and in some cases wish I could):
-Work with wood (really love that...gotta post some pics later),
-Build bicycles (got maybe a dozen frames...some CF),
-Build and design model aircraft - many crashes, but as a rocketeer you know gravity sucks...stuff down to earth)
-Raise fish (wow, that was quite an adventure! Bred Angel fish when people said it couldn't be done and had a puffer fish that was like a pet dog...also dreaded power outages)
-Create artwork (again, to me it doesn't matter the media or method...I've designed my own artwork as well as two group t-shirt designs).
-Photography (I'm often complimented on my photos and wish I could devote more to that area)
-Astronomy (I love the night skies...a few times a year I'll pull out the telescopes and spend a few hours outside admiring the awe in the sky above us)
-Build an ultralight (one of my dreams growing up, but never really got the chance to do...I actually studied Aeronautical Engineering for a few years, but now I figure this is a bucket list item)

I dub this thread the TRF Museum of WOW Art! :eyepop:

My Jeep "Hyjak" climbing "White knuckle hill" in Moab:

These shots were taken on a trail called "Behind the rocks", one of the more difficult trails in Moab. This is an obstacle called "High Dive":

We were doing the trail backwards, most Jeepers only go down these obstacles.

My dad and I collect John Deere 2 cylinder tractors from pre-1961. We mostly try to get them mechanically sound. Shiny paint doesn't interest us as much as no leaks and running like it did when they were new. Here's a couple pics from a "plow day". We don't mind getting them dirty, that's what they were designed to do after all...
First pic is stting the plow on Dads tractor. You can see mine sitting in the background. This was the biggest tractor John Deere made in 1959. 471 cubic inches, but only two cylinders. Yeah, it has a bounce to it... Second pic is my tractor, the next size smaller tractor and one of the most common sold in the late '50's to early '60's.

You guys have the best toys!

This is a great thread, even if it makes me feel boring.:clap::clap:

Man, there are some talented folks on here! Those astronomy pictures are amazing!!

I restored a 1955 Shopsmith so I could have a lathe to turn pens on. I took the old motor apart and rewired it to make it reversible - it helps with sanding. The first one is spalted black walnut, and my first custom finial. The second is locust. I also like shooting things with my camera, when I'm not shooting them with bullets.
