Back in 2012, our team made a successful flight to 100K. Along the way, a big tech company created this film as a brand promotion, but the corresponding advertising campaign got delayed and missed its market window. It took two years (and some judicious editing) to secure permission and licenses for a public release, and I'm happy to finally show it to the world.

Very well done video and thanks for sharing. Any video of the complete flight?

Wow! Boy I'm impressed. Rocket seemed compact but neat to see something that small can go that high. Kurt

This flight used about 21 kNs of impulse (AT N1000 to AT M685). One of the goals of the project was to break 100K on accessible, commercial motors. Last year we started moving towards a faster boost (and a new 30-foot launch tower) to keep it straight. If the launch at the end of this month goes well, we may go for more impulse and more altitude in September.

At the risk of posting old news, here's the project's web site:

Here's our project report, written to help others replicate it. The report was also a requirement of the Carmack Prize.

One of the best amateur rocket videos I have seen. The close ups of the motor ignitions are awesome. Very inspiring!

In the opening scene what is the tube being cut?

We were cutting some sheet metal at a build session (I forget why) and it made some sparks. The director saw it and decided we had to have sparks in the video, so they had me repeatedly cut a random pipe we had lying around just for the imagery. :)

Will there be anymore to the video? I feel like it was 4 minutes of build up then 1 minute of the rocket.

The vid was great to watch... thanks for the link, Casey.
The project was a great effort. I was subscribed to aRocket at that time as well and followed the teams progress very closely.
I need to get together with you and/or Ken, Tony, or whomever is still involved w/Arliss and decide how I can benefit the program.

Nice. A very professional and interesting video.
