URRG had their first launch of the year today. Little breezy but turned out to be a great day to fly.

Lastly my DarkStar. It's first flight was on a K805G, and landed in the irrigation ditch, frying all the electronics. I was a bit nervous on this one. Only my second time over a mile, and a bit breezy. Decided to go for it. Recovery via MARSA 54L. 6947', 551MPH ( I believe both are personal bests) GPS by BRB900.

Great repot and great photos! K1100 looks awesome. I can't wait to get my 3" DS built and flying.

I think you mentioned in some other thread that QND has surface mount fins. Any problems with them breaking on landing? I'd like to try a 4" 2X38 cluster and surface mount fins seems like the best way to attach them.

The DS is a TON of fun to fly. The K1100 was noticeably faster than the K805. Two loads I still want to try in this: K456DM and a Loki L1400.

I'd left this photo out of the report, but here's your Public Service Announcement for the day: check your quicklinks.

Body fell flat into the ground, flipped and tomahawked into the mud. Field was muddy and loose. Zero fin damage. Titebond II to LOC cardboard, surface mounted.

That's great to know the fins hold up. I think I'll definitely try a build like that soon.

Great photos. I'm still laughing about the frowny face on the photo. You've got a couple good ones there of my Baby Bertha lifting off too.

He's not kidding about the field being soft and loose - some portions seemed more water than soil. I think snow shoes might have been in order to cross it, and one of the farm trucks got bogged down and left major ruts in one place.

Wow that's funny Dave,,
I left a quick link open on a flight at Potter with my Arcas...
You got a pic of me holding the bent link,,, lol...
The harness stayed hanging on the hook of the bent link...
I got really lucky...
That's what the LCO Neil M in Maryland always says---
Better lucky then good.....lol

You always take some good shots, Dave. Sorry about the fried electronics. When my Vertical Assault landed in the Wye River, the rocket floated and mine were okay. Bet that never happens in the desert.

Dave - nice report & great photos. Are you taking these photos yourself? If so, what kind of camera are you using?

Still trying to nail it, but when the light is right I do OK.

So, now i wanna fly another K805 and see what it'll do.... (K805G was flown last June at URRF 2 )

Hmmm, nice clear readout, what tracker is that?

That's a snap off my phone. I put the BRB900 data into it manually. Still trying to figure out a way to feed the receiver into a computer directly.

Pretty sure Riley was getting his eggfinder to feed directly into his phone.

Riley was. The eggfinder just pukes the nmea gps data out a serial port. I used a $5 serial to bluetooth adapter so I could receive it on my phone. there are several bluetooth gps apps but the rocket locator app works pretty darn good.

Greg- nothing canon makes tops I for speed :). (Unless they've released something recently)

Nice report! I bet that 2xH238T boost was a neck-snapper. K1100T looks awesome!

It was surprisingly quick and loud. Didn't expect that out of a pair of 180 cases.

Yeah, those motors really get it. Combined it's a baby I476T.

Only thing about those Blue Thunder motors, like most mid power BTs and the short 38mm H242T, you don't get much blue flame. But that matters more to some than others.

Yea. I love some color and mach diamonds, but with clustering Ive come to like keeping it blue.

Interestingly, the third frame has a flash of blue. Guess it's time for some H220's :)

Yep, you will usually get a flash of blue at ignition and occasionally some sporadically throughout the burn.

H220s will definitely have the flame and some more umph! Two of those really vaulted my fully loaded 4" Ultimate off of the pad.

I love the way you guy's plot the flight path,,,,
Very cool...
