So I know someone started a thread for this last year, but what about this year? What are everyone's rocketry goals/new years resolutions?

Mine are

Break 1 mile
Break 10K/2 miles
Break mach 1
Fly my first 38mm motor
Fly my first "large" I motor
Fly DD in 38mm rockets
Pass my HAM radio test
Fly and get good at using a tracker
Fly my first CTI motors
Use a cable cutter for the first time
Go to LDRS!
Fly more NS than last year.
Buy something from Semroc

I am not going to set too many goals so I can be sure that I will accomplish them. That said, this year looks like it should be great rocketry-wise!

1. Fly a Loki engine (Already have some ready to go)
2. My first DD flight (I have a couple of bays in progress)
3. Get my L2 (Engine in hand, rocket 60% done)
4. Burn enough of my engine supply to justify the inevitable acquisitions that 2015 will bring (No promises on this one)

1. Learn a bit about Electronics/Altimeters
2. Kit Bash/Mod a TLP Plan Pak
3. Finish all the Builds I've started since the Snow started falling
4. Do my first Rocket Boosted Glider
5. Build some 4" stuff that is still MPR
6. Do a build of a Terrier Sandhawk Clone
7. Find new Fields to fly in
8. Join NAR and maybe Tripoli

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

First DD flight (DONE! 2/14/15)
Additional DD flights
L2 Certification
Learn how to use my BRB tracker effectively

This is all leading up to:
Join ARLISS
Build / Fly ARLISS-K rocket

1- Get L1
2- Learn DD
3- Get L2
4- Go to a black rock launch
5- Have fun
6- ?

Goals with realistic targets

- L2, set for LDRS
- test and learn redundant configurations, currently testing
- break Mach 1, LDRS
- break 10K, 15K LDRS
- learn how to use the GPS trackers effectively, currently testing
- finish build pile before I buy another rocket, ongoing should be done by end of year
- rocketry related, get my basic HAM, end of March

And finally...BURN THROUGH SOME AP!

Let's see, some of these can be combined

  1. Finish Darkstar Jr., which will lead to:
    • Fly first FG rocket
    • Get my NAR L2
    • Mach 1
    • Flight over 1 Mile
    • First 38mm motor (May be in a King Kraken instead)
    • First DD flight (may wait until after L2)
  2. Fly my first MicroMaxx
  3. Participate in an NAR contest
  4. Attend NARAM 58
  5. Attend Hellfire (20?)
  6. Get enough kids at the program where I've started a weekly rocketry program/group/club interested enough to participate in the 2016 TARC

-Mach 2
-Mach 3
-20,000
-Pass my Ham radio test
- fly my first 54mm motor (Loki K250 :) )

March - fly my first 54mm motor (K535) in the initial flight of my Hyperloc 1600 :point:
April - fly my first 75mm motor (M1350) and get my L3 with my Hyperloc 1600 :point:
Spend the rest of the year thinking of how fun it would be to fly, but can't because I spent my entire annual motor budget on two flights of the Hyperloc 1600. :eyeroll:
Good thing I have a few G, H, and I motors left over from last year.

But seriously, after L3, I'm going to other direction. I'm going to work on the NARTrek Challenges.

- Mach 1
- Mach 2
- Break a mile (so close!)
- Break 10,000'
- Take and pass TMP Test
- Fly first cluster with composite motors.
- Fly my first J motor!

I got a ton more but these are the ones that seem to be the most likely to happen. :p

To not get killed or become horribly disfigured or cause anyone else to be killed or maimed by an errant Talos...

L2 before the summer monsoons and ensuing rocket swallowing never ending swamp expands.

-Re-fly my CAR L2 flight to get senior status (using my Shape Shifter Jr. and with my Darkstar Jr. on standby to act as backup)
-Get my CAR L3 (using my 3" Punisher)
-Fly either a K or an L motor
-Attend LDRS (and join Tripoli)
-Break mach 1
-Build and fly either a 38mm or 54mm min-diameter bird (using a Binder Design Max-Q aluminum fincan... that is if I can ever afford one:))
-And if (and I mean if) all goes well, possibly start planning for my CAR L4 flight with the goal of flying it in 2016 or 2017.

I'll be happy even if I only manage to do 1/3 of these goals:)

Learn to use my new spray gun so I can lay down some nice metal flake over black on my Ultimate Darkstar.
Retry L3 at LDRS on my Ultimate Darkstar and succeed this time!
Finish & fly my AGM 33 PIKE 5.5 at LDRS
Finish & fly my Shapeshifter jr. 2 stage at LDRS
Go mach 1 on either my Ultimate Darkstar or my AGM 33 Pike 5.5 at LDRS

1) L2...rocket and motor ready.
2) 1 Mile...multiple capable rockets, just need waiver.
3) 38 mm MD from a tower...tower done, fiberglassing tubes underway.
4) Mach 1...should come along with the other goals.
5) Attend Airfest

This is a soft list. The one's that happen, great. The one's that don't, that is waht 2016 is for.

1) Get my L2 (with any luck that will be checked-off this weekend)
2) Do a successful DD flight (0-for-1 so far, likely won't do DD on my L2 attempt since I'm having e-match troubles)
3) Do a cable-cutter style DD flight (for a rocket that doesn't have space for more traditional DD)
4) >1 mile (5195' max right now, on whichever rocket I've successfully done DD on first)
5) First night launch (just published my build thread for that rocket this morning)
6) Better shots of launches (picking up an Olympus SP-100 today, and waiting for this year's Sony action camera to come out for higher frame rate pad video)

And if I manage to take care of those, I'll probably try my first FG kit later this year, to start thinking about > mach 1, higher altitudes and perhaps my L3 more like 2016! :)

My goal this year is to go faster than Mach 1, and higher than a Mile with an un-reinforced rocket (think paper and plywood) -Probably something BT80 sized and J powered. Eggfinder and cable cutter for recovery.

I think it's a little ambitious considering where my skill is currently. I know others will think so.

My goals for 2015 are:

Build my first true cluster

Upscale a Vagabond for my L1 cert

Break Mach 1

Learn and use dual deployment

Get L1 certified

I might get 3 of those. It's possible to get 4 in a single action. I could upscale a Vagabond, include DD, break Mach 1 with it, while getting my L1 cert. stranger things have happened.

-Fly my first 38mm H's and I's (already flew quite a few now)
-Clear 3000 feet (accomplished this accidentally last Saturday)
-Fly dual deploy
-Clear 1 mile
-Clear Mach 1
-Clear two miles
The last two I'll probably build a 38mm MD for...
