So, I'm going to be in ABQ for a few days in February for a work thing. The hotel/conference center I'll be staying at is toward the south side of town, about ten minutes from the airport (according to the literature).

My question is: is there a good publicly accessible launch area on the southern I-25 area that a dude could launch some rockets in the evening, or would I be better off bringing something to build in the hotel room?

Unfortunately my work thing ends the Thursday afternoon before the ARS club launch on the 14th and my wife will probably want me home since I need to leave again that Sunday; fortunately, I may be able to finally visit the nuclear museum on Friday before I drive home.

Any suggestions would be great, including for restaurants for four nights.

From what I learned by watching Walt and Jesse on TV, you can drive into the desert outside of ABQ and do anything you please.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, formally known at the National Atomic Museum when located in Old Town, is a great museum. https://www.nuclearmuseum.org/

When in Albuquerque for a week I try to eat at Casa de Benavidez located in the Northwest part of the city. Great New Mexican food at reasonable prices, a nice atmosphere, and a great view of the mountains at sunset. https://www.casadebenavidez.com/

A really good restaurant that we also go to is 15 minutes north of the city just across the Rio Grande in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM . The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa has great restaurants and a great main gathering room and view of the mountains. https://tamaya.hyatt.com/en/hotel/our-hotel.html

The Hyatt's Corn Maiden Restaurant is superb, a bit pricy but worth it. https://tamaya.hyatt.com/content/da...y/Documents/all/TAMAYCornMaidenDinner2015.pdf

Old Town is a great place to go if you have the day off. https://www.albuquerqueoldtown.com/ The rest of the museums are located there and they are quite good. (The National Atomic used to be there as well.) You have to stop at the New Mexico Natural History Museum to see the STARTUP Gallery. It is a walkthrough exhibit of the early years of computers. Brought back a lot of memories from the early 70s. https://startup.nmnaturalhistory.org/ While you're you're in Old Town, wet your whistle and enjoy some lunch at the Casa de Ruiz, known as the Church Street Cafe. https://www.churchstreetcafe.com/ It is the oldest house and structure in New Mexico, has great margaritas and good Mexican food.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'll be walking distance (I like to walk) from Old Town. The nuclear museum is definitely on the list, been to the city several times in the past, but never had an opportunity to go, this time I'm scheduling it into the trip. I'll be checking out the others, too.

FYI - The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, formally known at the National Atomic Museum, now located in SE ABQ outside Sandia National Laboratory, not within walking distance of Old Town. https://www.nuclearmuseum.org/
