    Gosling Test Vehicle - scratch

This is my model of the Gosling Test Vehicle. I found the original on display at Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mill, formerly a place where explosives were made, now a museum. Since their products included propellants for rockets, the musuem has a rocketry section and this thing was sitting outside it. There's no information, but Gosling was a booster used for the Thunderbird missile so presumably the test vehicle was used to see if it worked.

The model is scratch-built, based around BT-55 equivalent. Fins are laminated balsa. The fins slightly overhang the transition to the wider body section at the back - this is intentional, the fins do that on the real one too! The nose is a transition to BT-5 with a rolled paper transition and a small rolled paper cone on the end of the BT-5.

The rocket has flown once on an A8-3, on which it did not go very far; and several times on B6-4's, which gave a much more respectable performance. It's currently under repair, having had a fin knocked off by a hard landing on 5th June but it should be operational again soon - I'm going back to Waltham Abbey early in July and this model is going with me to fly there... Meanwhile the picture shows it ready to fly on Fairlie Moor, where numerous motors including the Gosling were static-tested.

Don't just stand there, get one up!

    LPR The Launch Pad ALARM

Here's my entry: The Launch Pad ALARM (Air Launched Anti-Radiation Missile) Prototype. It flies on a pair of D12's. According to EMRR it has flown twice but I think it's a little more than that. Photos by Jimmy Yawn.

Here's the link for the video of that flight:
    http://www.nefar.net/gallery/2009-02...aver-D12x2.wmv

Looks like it needs more delay and more parachute. Ya think?

    Centuri 1/40 Scale V-2 KS-19 Clone

My entry for this month's contest: my scale V-2 based on Centuri's KS-19 plans from JIMZ. Purchased the NC and tailcone from Balsa Machining. Painted it following the V-2 Number 2 launched at White Sands on April 16, 1946. Krylons paints for the primer, yellow and black, and printed the stripes Silver Metallic with my ALPS. It has flown a couple of times on B6-4s.

Edit: if you would like to know any details on what is going on picture #4 click here....

    Ok, heres mine...ready?

This undetonated missle, the 'Infinity' was found floating in the debris field just off Section 4 of the Gamma Quadrant.

Manufactured by the Intergalactic Alliance, the 'Infinity' is constructed of a pulsed laser vaporization produced single wall carbon nanotube composite. An Adamantium foil covers the composite. The launch deployment tubes are made of pure Adamantium.

The failed GPS (Galactic Positioning Sensor) showed the missle was headed to the planet Xrghtung, in an attempt to finally destroy Evil Emporer Zurg.

Unfortunatly, the warhead, containing large amounts of the highly explosive PemTechium, was not found. Presumably scavenged, PemTechium fetches high dollars on the Black Hole market.

The propulsion system had consisted of a MEMs based Nanoparticle Field Extraction Thruster, or NanoFET. It has since been converted to run on the more readily available A, B, or C grade Estes fuel modules...

    .................. ..............

Ok, ok, it was a kids plastic squirt gun I made into a rocket! Lexan fins, aluminum LLs, and plumbers putty for (adjustable)nose weight. Check out the quick-connects at both the NC and BT (fishing leaders). I crimped a 1gram sinker to the short leader, and epoxied it into the top of the NC, to cover the 'squirt' hole. 18" GB chute. Its been launched on A8-3s and B6-4s, but I'm nervous of sending it up on C's...

    Arrow 3FNC Mini

DId you know that the 3FNC is actually a retro version of the V-2 (it looks more like the submarine launched version of the V-2 (never built ), In fact, it looks so much like it that i will enter it in this contest!
It is a 2.6", 18mm powered version of the famous first Pem-tech kit, the 3FNC. It has had 1 flight, on a C6-5, boost was slow, and delay was a bit long, normally i would have a flight video, but my little deckhands had school tomorrow, and pushing the Launch button with my feet sounded like a bad idea, oh well...

SD, an absolute PRO at Procrastination

P.s. , if it doesn't qualify for a V-2 scale, enter it as a model of the MORE famous Pemberton 3FNC

    EDIT: Added video, ASTRE launch.

    AIM-54 Phoenix Guided Missile Family

Here is my AIM-54 Phoenix guided missile family. I always thought this was a cool looking rocket, I built the center one (Baby Phoenix- 24mm- http://www.rocketreviews.com/reviews..._phoenix.shtml) first. On a 24mm – D Engine it screams almost out of sight. After building the “Baby Phoenix” I decided that I should build the Estes version (24mm). After this one, I built the Micro (MMX) Phoenix.

    Thanks,
    Ray

My entry is an Estes Maxi V-2, that really likes AT E30's. If you want to get Technical it's not a V-2 it is an A-4. Which is what the V-2 was called before the Propaganda ministry named it the Vergeltungswaffe Zwei. It's in the roll pattern used on the first successful test launch on Oct 3 1942. This launch is also regarded as the first man made object to cross into space. The roll pattern and Frau der Mond is based on the info in Hölsken, Dieter's "V-Missiles of the Third Reich: The V-1 and V-2."

not the best 4 view of the roll pattern but quick and dirty is better than not entering!

The funny looking object in the fore ground of the 3rd picture is a dragonfly
