Just a heads up folks, The fed, state, county, and / or municipal governments will take this lull in prices to increase the taxes... It's gonna happen.

"Hey, let's add $0.30 to the price of each gallon of gas to get more money in the coffers, nobody will really notice that at these prices", .

Where you been? Obama announced last week he wanted to raise federal gas tax 30 cents per gallon.

I'm not gonna worry until water prices spike... Then we're (colorful metaphor)'d.

I have been following water stocks for 15 years. American Water Works [AWK ticker]has been on a terror, for the last 5 yrs accumulating water dept. around the country. They now own them in 40 states & 2 Provinces in Canada.
14 % of water supplies are now owned by foreign conglomerates including CHINA...yes they are selling our future water supplies to offshore owners! The 5 largest water suppliers own 58% of the supply and billing as of now[private not counting government owned]. I bought American at 28.00 5-6 years back, it's now at 56.28 paying a 1.28 dividend. Granted many get water from their municipality but the bulk comes from private industry or they own and operate facilities for the government.

Start worrying now: from their website.........

"American Water Works Company, Inc. serves approximately 14 million people with drinking water, wastewater, and other water-related services in approximately 40 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The company was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Voorhees, New Jersey. The company’s Regulated Businesses segment offers water and wastewater services to approximately 1,500 communities. It operates approximately 80 surface water treatment plants; 500 groundwater treatment plants; 1,000 groundwater wells; 100 wastewater treatment facilities; 1,200 treated water storage facilities; 1,300 pumping stations; 87 dams; and 47,000 miles of mains and collection pipes. This segment serves residential customers; commercial customers, such as shops and businesses; industrial customers, including manufacturing and production operations; public authorities, which comprise government buildings and other public sector facilities; and other water utilities, as well as supplies water to public fire hydrants for firefighting purposes, and private fire customers for use in fire suppression systems in office buildings and other facilities. Its Market-Based Operations segment undertakes contracts to design, build, operate, and maintain water and wastewater facilities for the United States military, municipalities, the food and beverage industry, and other customers."

Scary that such a basic need for so many, is controlled by so few. You can get by with out gas, but water is another story. This consolidation has been going on quietly for many, many years by Water's big 4. Only a matter of time before rates go up.

That would be fine by me as long as the money was used ONLY to fix our road/bridge infrastructure. It is the best way to tax as it is a USAGE tax.

"The growth in vehicle miles traveled has actually declined for nine consecutive years. The increase in fuel efficiency has been pretty dramatic. And then we’ve got highway construction costs that have not been declining. As a result of the combination of inflation, fuel efficiency and changing driving patterns, we’ve got a Highway Trust Fund that is in a tailspin."

I view the ability to produce whatever we need from our own oil as matter of strategic importance. If our refineries cannot make gasoline from the oil we are producing then new refineries need to be built post haste. To not do so is to put our energy needs at the whim of folks who really do not have our best interests at heart.

If the EPA is the problem then we need some politicians with enough brains and stones to shut them down.
We need power whether it is petroleum, nuclear, hydroelectric, solar- whatever. Get the Feds out of the way.
