Anyone planning to watch Ascension?

I wondered the same thing... What about the ship being constantly under acceleration? Say 1g??? Not sure of the science of this, just thinking out loud....

Adrian
The ship is under constant 1g acceleration. Ascension uses Orion-style nuclear propulsion. They even mentioned Project Orion very briefly in passing.

I watched the first episode last night. Without giving away any spoilers, the "twist" at the end of episode 1 was not a welcome development for me. I was hoping for a more straightforward drama about a multi-generational Orion-class starship, not this. I'm probably going to watch at least 1 more episode, but my main reason for wanting to see the show has been lost.

What? Are they going to kill off Tricia Helfer's character????

I recorded it, started watching it this afternoon and feel asleep.
I just deleted it without watching the rest.
Pretty bad.

So from the sound of the posts here I guess it's safe to say that SyFy still can't do good Sci-Fi??

Their reputation is secure... LOL:) The losing streak continues...

Later! OL JR :)

My assessment so far...

1960's......Madmen in space....

"Sex is the only currency on this ship..."

"Escort them to their sleeping pods!!!

I can't believe I wasted 10 hours of my life, watched part 2 again cause fell asleep yesterday.
Agree with MAXQ "WTF" kind of ending was that?
Well at least the women were HOT !!

So, what started out as a test of a generational space vehicle's effects on the future ship's population (complete with steerage passengers/lower caste - ala Titanic) became an "anomaly" under a misguided project leader, while a secret organization planned to develop and then extract an advanced clairvoyant and paranormally talented star child (the little girl) which apparently had to be developed over a protracted fifty year period - ALL within the confines of the fake generational space vehicle (did they really need an elaborate hoax involving a huge spaceship with 600 people that doesn't go anywhere to do that?.....or - couldn't they have done that genetic experiment much cheaper in some smaller hidden lab in a back lot of Area 51 ?).

When pigs fly...or to be exact...when pigs run loose on the space ship bridge!

Not sure I get the point of the repeated zombie appearances of dead Lorelei in the last episode....is this just some appeasement to the current zombie trend...(TV producer: "Ok we got the sleezy sex scenes, ....NOW....put a few zombie/vampires in there")

And at the end....when the ship restabilizes after the big electrical power surge....the girl says she doesn't want to go - ?...and where the hell did the black officer end up...?

That was kind of a rip off of the end of "The Quiet Earth" :

Watched it to the end too.

What a frakking mess.

And that was well before the ultimate "WFT" in the last 10 seconds. OK, so "It worked" and thanks to the girl the guy is on a planet, way way off somewhere (with apparently nothing he could eat, even if there is breathable air and even if that liquid is water safe to drink) so it would seem he'd be dead soon. She didn't know how she did that, so it's not like her next trick would be to bring him back anytime soon.

Which all leads to NOTHING because almost surely this is not going to turn into a series. Even if 10 million had watched it (no way) and it did become a series, it would be too stupid to ever want to watch.

I think then only thing missing from that last scene was a flying shark in the background.

I just rewatched the Quiet Earth again, if only to hear that magnificent orchestration in the theme....
What a mind-blower of a movie. "He tells lies." Did anyone see the ending of "Quiet Earth" coming?

I watched the first episode on demand. It was awful. It's not science fiction, it's a soap opera. And a pretty bad one at that. And I absolutely could not believe the surprise at the end of the first episode (I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet). No, I won't be watching any more of it.
