I want to ignite an Estes motor from an onboard r/c unit, and I'm hoping to use the onboard battery. What kind of extra current capacity will I need for an Estes ignitor? Is their a better igntor for this application?

The estes igniter takes an amp or two IIRC. For remote ignition, I would go with a Quest Q2G2 igniter - it will fire on a couple hundred milliamps, and is more reliable than the Estes igniter.

6 volts and 2 amps, minimum. The Q2G2 is a much better choice for something like this.
