Who is the 'African American Rocket Scientist' mentioned in this news article?

    Group,

Before you read the article, my intent is to ONLY discover the identy of the 'African American Rocket Scientist'.

I am NOT publishing this to debate the controversy mentioned in the article; I just want the name... that is all. If you know it and post, thank you in advance

P.s. of course if others here want to talk about it, have at it. I am only concerned with finding the above mentioned person. And yes, I have called the reporter mentioned in the article seeking the same information. Maybe this person reads TRF and might contact me privately.

Ann Arbor Public Schools officials said Wednesday that the trip last week by 30 Dicken Elementary School students to meet Alec Gallimore, an African-American aerospace engineering professor and propulsion lab director at the university, was intended to inspire them as part of a bigger push to close a persistent gap in test scores between black and white students.

I hope the school arranges another field trip for all the students who wish to attend. I'm sure Dr. Gallimore would be a positive inspiration for any child.

    Roger,

Thank you VERY much. I will try and contact Dr. Gallimore via a call or e-mail. Yes, I agree that ANY child would find inspiration. And that is the FINAL word, no seriously, the FINAL word I will say on the subject. I was after his name and NOT a reaction from the readership here.

That's a pretty darned impressive resume...

I can barely pronounce some of those words, and I am an aerospace engineer!

He does look pretty young for his age, though (considering one of those awards is dated 1938?)

    1966

From his academic record, I'm guessing he was born around 1966 considering he graduated college in 1988. subtract 4 years from that. (1984) subtract 12 years from that year(1972). Subtract 6 years and you get 1966.
This is for an "average" student. I'm sure he is anything but average.

Take all the kids! Every kid should get to meet amazing people and see cool stuff.

That is one impressive C.V. (all 27 pages).
